My dad had a blacked out 2.5 months ago and after some consultations at the hospital, he was diagnosed with a mild stroke. While doing some further checks, the doctor discovered a ‘tumor’ which has grown to a size of 3cm at his pituitary glands which is just between both his eye balls which also very near to his brain!

The doctor then referred him to the University Malaya Medical Centre where he went for the operation to remove the ‘tumor’. He was told that the whole process will only takes about 5 days (from admission to discharge) but what really happened was he was stuck in the hospital for almost a month! He was finally discharged yesterday and all of us hope he will not have to go back in there again!

I am not going to elaborate about what actually happened until I get all my facts right but my family are damn pissed with the whole ordeal! It is not just about the no medical exam life insurance but the ethics of our medical profession! Arrggh!

I think a lot of people are avoiding KFC after their recent scandals where their kitchen staff were caught tampering with food preparation. A few weeks back, I received a copy of KFC’s breakfast promotion vouchers in my letter box. I’ve never purchase any of their breakfast items before as I find the food in the menu is not of value for the price they are charging.

So far I only like their OR (Original Recipe) chicken so the only item in their breakfast menu is the a.m. Platter Combo which is priced at RM8.90 which includes 1 pc of chicken, a portion of scrambled egg, a bun, a small whipped potato and a small cup of either coffee/tea (refillable if dine in) or Milo/orange juice) just like what they put on their website…

.

Photo taken from KFC’s site

.

If you look at the photo above, you’ll be tempted to order a plate which was exactly what I did! so naive of me!

One day last week, I went to Tesco @ Jalan Tengku Kudin for grocery shopping so I decided to use the voucher which amounted to RM1 off the a.m. Platter Combo but I still have to pay RM8+ after adding the 6% tax.

And guess how my KFC Breakfast Box turned out to be like???

.

.

In reality, it was far from appetizing!!!! I wonder how long they have been using their oil to fry their chicken??? That aside. What annoyed me most was that pile of so-called scrambled egg! It look like ‘yat-pek-yeh’ (shit) rather than scrambled egg! ggggrrrrrr!!

RM8 is not a lot but not very little either! For that amount I can get a very decent plate of nasi Kandar from the nasi Kandar shop opposite! Chicken was dried, scrambled egg was tasteless and bread was stale! The only edible item was the whipped potato and the cup of Milo.

To me, KFC Breakfast is not very popular as I hardly see anyone buying the breakfast sets. It is not cheap and the size of serving is definitely below value. They lose hands down to McDonald’s! At least McDonald’s can fry their scrambled egg like what they put on their menu board!

… but got slapped with a RM150 fine!

How did that happen?

About two weekends back, PiggyBeng was away on one of his business trip to Jakarta so I decided not to cook and brought the kids out for dinner. Initially we have wanted to have KFC behind our house but thought we are having KFC too often so I told Darrius we’ll go for noodles instead. So we head to e-Gate for Noodle Station which I have promised Darrius I’ll bring him there.

It was about 7pm so it will be dark by the time we are done so I decided not to park at Tesco. I was debating if I should park inside e-Gate and thought that since it is so late, our ever so Boleh law enforcers will not be around and went with my gut feel to park at the side of the condo just opposite the e-Gate’s toll house.

This Noodle Station branch is not a nice place to eat coz the aircon don’t seems to work when we sat behind the counter. Screaming Baby G made the entire experience a lousy one.

We went off about 45 minutes later and was shocked to find a ticket tucked below the windscreen…

I thought it was not such a serious offence to park outside the condominium’s area though I knew it has a yellow line… it was not a busy road neither do I blocking any traffic there…

Went to make the payment last Friday only to find out that it was a RM150 fine! Reasons given – ‘Melanggar trafik lalu lintas’ loosely translated as ‘Violating traffic’ … WTF rite???!!!!

I suspected the guy sitting at the toll house in e-Gate conspired with the traffic police… what do you think?

This morning I brought the kids out to Tesco to have lunch as well as to stock up on our daily groceries. Everything went well until when we were on our way out of the parking lot. One dumb ass just parked his/her car right in front of my car (even where there were a few empty lots next to his/her car!!!) which left me with very little room to maneuver the car. Arrgghh!

When I finally moved out I met with another dumb ass at the exit! Well, I was wrong to go to a no-entry but my car was parked nearest to that exit so it made sense to go out from there and not have to make a big round to go another exit. After all it is a hypermarket’s parking so don’t really have to abide the law since it was not crowded. But that dumb ass was damn rude! She just come head on and refused to budge and still rolled down her window and scolded me! Why we have such ungracious drivers here????

She looked as if wanted to pick up a fight too!!! I was so mad that I showed her my finger when I drove off! Unfortunately we do not have much protection in personal injury else I would have purposely ram into her car! Bleak~

Unlike those folks staying in Texas, they can engage the Austin personal injury lawyer such as the O’Hanlon, McCollom & Demerath – Personal Injury Lawyers – 808 West Avenue, Austin, TX. 78701 – 512-494-9949 to help them fight the case.

The moon cakes manufacturers started churning out moon cakes like 2.5 months ago and we bought ours a month ago. Even before Mid Autumn Festival, which was last night, we already finished 3 boxes with the huge chunk eaten by you know who! The sale of moon cakes were rather brisk here in Penang with many standard brands as well as by local restaurants.

With the thought that Penang is indeed a very Chinese place (there are so many Chinese festivals here and they normally do it in a mega way) there should be a grand celebration but I was totally wrong!!! We saw a blog post mentioning that there will be a lanterns festival in the Esplanade last night so we actually drove there! To our horror (yes, no other words can describe!) there were not even a soul at that place! It was as quiet as the cemetery!! It was soaked in total darkness! Though the rain has stopped and it was not even 8pm which the ‘event’ supposed to start.

In disbelief, we drove further to Campbell Street and was greeted with the same scene… so we drove on to Burmah Road. There was some traffics so we decided we should not get ourselves caught there since it is a week night. We then drove to PiggyBeng’s grandma’s place and there was nothing going on there too so what else? Drove home lor! can’t believe that no kids actually brought their lanterns around the neighborhood!!! Is the tradition/spirit dying here??? So, people only buy moon cakes and eat moon cakes and that’s it?

How to explain to a little boy that there were no one interested in playing the lantern except him?? Darrius was so eager and he brought along a few of his lanterns out!

And so, we let him live the tradition before he don’t get to experience it again as this might be the final year we are in Malaysia to celebrate Mid Autumn…

.

.

We let him walk about behind our house with his favorite lanterns. The swordfish lantern was given by this mommy which her dad made. Very nice hor? Baby G also has one which is in the shape of a geese. The Pooh Bear was store bought which has loud music and was super annoying!!!!

I called my parents later in the night and was told that their neighborhood was very ‘happening’ with their neighbors lighting candles and many lanterns around the house and kids were walking about.

Another disappointment was, the moon went hiding! *sob*

I can’t remember when Baby G started her crying spell. Probably about 2 months back if I can still remember clearly… She don’t sleep like a baby any more as she wakes up almost every hour during the night just so she can get boobed (copied this word from mamapumpkin). Initially I told myself that since she could be teething, hence all the crying due to the pain but her teeth have sprouted so she should be feeling better. Guess I was wro0ng. I think I really had enough of this wakey-wakey business during the night. I am not a good sleeper like PiggyBeng (he won’t know if the world explode) so this waking up many times in the night really put a toll on my health. I am turning into a Dracula! (*-*) My problem is, I can go back to sleep after waking up. I don’t take naps either.

Baby G don’t just cry… she will scream louder and louder if I chosed to ignore her. Afraid that the noise will wake her daddy who needs his 8-hour of beauty sleep else he can’t function the next day, this mommy has to sacrifice.

.

We have never had these kind of situations before with Darrius. Darrius was an easy baby and he don’t cry that much even when he was teething. The only thing was, he has a few rounds of fever which Baby G does not have.

After weeks/ months of these, I think I can take it no more and my last resort was taking this measure…

.

.

Yes… I gave her a chut-chut!!!!! It was really something I hate to do but I don’t have or can’t find a better solution! I don’t know how this chut-chut will perform but I am just going to give it a try.

She is already going to be 9-month old in less than 10 days so she might not take it so well as those who got started earlier in their life. But then again, no harm trying.

Bought her a pair of this NUK rubber soothers which supposed to be like real ‘nipple’ so babies were supposed to feel ‘comforted’ by it. Wanted to get the silicone ones but they seemed to be more expensive and looked fake but cleaner. Maybe if Baby G wanted to continue to be ‘chut-chuted’ then I’ll get them for her.

Let her suck on it yesterday and she thought that it was a toy so she kept pulling it out and play with it by biting other areas except the ‘rubber teat’! So I forced her to nap with it and she did put on a tough fight before she finally went to lalaland still sucking it. Some improvement. However, during night time, she refused to have it and insisted on the boobs instead so no choice gotta boobed her else she won’t stop crying.

Then just now, I tried to stuffed into her mouth when I put her to nap and she gave another tough fight but mommy won again and she went to sleep still sucking it. Can’t wait till she is able to sleep on her own while sucking this fake ‘boobies’!

This is another backdated post!

Remember when I first blogged about our very 1st experience at Chicago Rib House in Gurney Plaza on this year’s Father’s Day? We were all happy with their food and service though they were not excellent.

Because of that reason, we decided to return the following week just for their ribs! You must have thought that we are nuts to eat at the same place for 2 consecutive weeks but we did as there aren’t much eating places that attracts us around that area. It is either Chilis or Chicago.

So, after the movie we had our dinner there. We ordered a burger and a full rack of pork ribs this round thinking that we can share among the 3 of us. The first time it took about 15 minutes for our orders to come but this round it took more than 30 minutes! The restaurant was not full (about 4 tables) at all with most of the diners half way through their meals.

I think we asked the waiters at least 3 times for our orders but none came back to tell us when they will be served! At that time (Friday at 5pm) is not a peak period either. There were at least 5 to 6 waitresses either walking about or congregate at one corner chit-chatting. About what, I don’t have any idea!

Finally at almost 40 minutes, our orders came. And when I look at that plate of FULL rack of pork ribs I have a shocked!

.

.

If you compare the plate of FULL rack above with the half rack I had the previous week, you can see the huge difference and will also wonder why one would want to pay an extra RM15++ for it! I felt short changed!!!I was baffled by the size. If I have known, we will just order the half rack. Seriously… don’t they have some kind of STANDARD for their food? I’m sure the hogs/pigs are being reared till a standard size before they are slaugthered.

So, I decided to count the amount of bones/ribs in that full rack. There were 8 in total. I thought a full rack has 12 sticks of bones so I decided to make a check on Wikipedia. Then I view back the ribs we had in Cafe Cartel in Singapore. I found they have better standard control as their plate of full rack of ribs are of about the same size even at different outlets. Oh yeah, I forgot to add that it was so burnt that not much meat left on the ribs!

Then came our burger… Well, it does not make me feel any better! For almost the same price we paid for burgers at Chilis, we got this…

.

.

It was the least appetising and most pathetic burger I’ve ever seen! And mind you, this was supposed to be a gourmet burger! If this one from McD, I won’t have anything to say. Even that slice of lettuce looked so limp!

And the taste? It tasted weird!

Will we go back again? I don’t know… probably some day. For now, I think we will go back to Chilis. No more pork ribs outside but luckily I have my own chef at home who can do better ribs than Chicago! And yes, it is cheaper too!!

I am not sure if every kids go through such a phase. It is when they can’t really distinct between hunger and fullness but I think I have one here!

Darrius don’t seems to know if he is hungry or full. One moment he tells me he’s hungry and when I put food in front of him he can tell me he is full!!!! What is that supposed to mean?????!!!! Many times these past 2 weeks, his bentos came home either untouched or half eaten. The teachers have been complaining too. Imagine he gets stuff like these in his bentos…

.

.

Last Sunday, he came and told me he’s hungry around noon so I went to scoop some noodles which I’ve just fried. He ate a few bites and came to me saying he’s not hungry anymore. I was furious of course! So, I fed him and he finished all… From here I really start to wonder… is he sure he is not hungry or he is too lazy to eat by himself?

I have been getting complains from his class teacher saying he would rather play than eat! She told me sometimes she has to ‘feed’ him which Darrius was not too happy about which in return he came and complaint to me too! Wah… I tell you… kepala pusing!

Therefore, I rather trade my sleeping time preparing healthy bentos for him so he will get all the vitamins. Though the kindy does provide snacks but I find some of the food not too healthy (cakes with icing, doughnuts, cheap biscuits) for growing up kids like Darrius.

Do you think Darrius is just too spoilt?

Last Saturday we brought the kids to the Mainland again so PiggyBeng can go hit some balls, I can shop with Baby G and Darrius can enjoy himself in the indoor play land. This is a promise I made to Darrius a week ago that if he finished all his homework, I will tell daddy to bring him there.

This is our 4th of 5th time there so we are no strangers to the place. Darrius is very familiar with that play land too. It was thus far one of the better quality indoor play land around this place… However, I found that it has started to lose some quality over the last few months. Anyway, I am not going to dwell in that in today’s post.

Since Darrius is almost 5 years old, we thought we could ’set him free’ and let him be a wee bit more independent. Since the place has some kind of ’security’ (with gates and caretakers seated at the entrance) we thought our son will be safe while we let him enjoy inside and we go shop around the mall. Prior to that, we kept reminding him countlessly not to go out of the play land with anyone nor accept anything from anyone beside daddy or mommy. However, it was not the case last week!

During our absence, a stranger offered a bottle of Vitagen to Darrius at the gate! Luckily we were around and make sure that we check on him every couple of minutes. We were of course flabergasted! We asked Darrius who gave him that Vitagen and he said an ‘uncle’! We kept probing him, which ‘uncle’??? However he failed to point to us. Darrius loves Vitagen but we seldom buy for him due to the high sugar content… thus he turns very glutton when he sees them.

We went to the counter and asked one of the lady caretaker there and she has no idea who gave Darrius that bottle of Vitagen. Both PiggyBeng and myself were really mad and worried sick! A lot of ‘what if’ ran though our minds…

I guess we will not be going there for a while… it is too risky to leave Darrius to play there on his own with other kids. We are not sure if there are morons out there who are there to lure kids away by offering them ’sweet stuff’ which might be spiked!

Rant! Rant! Rant!

My confinement ended almost 3 weeks ago. Some nice blogging friends sent Glennedine some pressies using our beloved postal service to my parents’ place in Cheras thinking of a little surprise. Our postal service is so good that out of all the pressies, only 1 arrived!

So, after checking with some mommies who sent us stuff, we discovered that the POS LAJU has a bunch of BIG LIARS! One mommy called up and checked on her parcel and was told that they have sent to my parents’ place but there were no one at home to receive the parcel and so they dropped a collection card. However, after checking with my dad, he said he did not see any Pos Laju guy coming nor receive any collection cards in our mailbox.

Then I called again last Wednesday to ask if I can reschedule for the parcel to be sent. The guy from the customer service said I can and rescheduled the parcel to be sent to my parents’ place last Friday but Friday came and gone and there were nothing in sight.

I told Yvonne about it and she called them again and she said I’ll have to collect from their office (in Belakong) by Monday (today) or else it will be sent back to her. So, I told my dad to collect on my behalf this morning.

Guess what???

The parcel is in Bangi!!!! And how the hack they told Yvonne that the parcel is in Cheras???

POS LAJU in Cheras is one of the worst postal service I’ve known. Your stuff will either dissapear or never arrive unless you go check it out in their office!!! Gggrrrrrrr!!!!

Luckily the Pos Laju in Penang is much more reliable…. at least I received all my stuff so far…
