The reason why we never go dine in this place was, it has an expensive setting. According to my MIL, they also do dim sum in the morning but we have yet to try too… always prefer to go Red Tea at the back.

We have wanted to order their steamed farm run chicken but they ran out of stock (lame excuse for a restaurant which have just opened for business for the day) so we just make do with whatever we think which would not cost too much.

I taste was quite ok… according to my mom! She is a very particular person when she dine outside so if she says good… then it should be good! Hahaha

The rice is free so you can eat as much as you want! If I am not mistaken Chinese tea is also free but we forgot to order since they never ask!

The bill came to about RM40+ so I would say it is quite reasonable but one complain… their aircon is not cold! We were eating drenched in sweat!

We used to patronize Red Tea frequently before we have Baby G but gone less since that Samseng don’t sleep much so we would try to keep her in bed if she can sleep on. If we do go, we have to leave the house at 8am as the weather here is just too hot and humid to stay on after 9am at those open space food places.

Red Tea is open everyday except on Monday… if I’m not mistaken. They are operated by the same boss of Red Bali. The dim sum items are nothing the shout about as they are more or less the same with other dim sum operators but they are unique in their own ways… they often comes out with new recipes and designs to entice their customers. On weekdays, they will serve the customers but on weekends it is self-service since they have more than 100 of tables!

They also serve fried noodles on request but sometimes they will do a big batch on weekends. This is fried beehoon with fried fish slices which tasted damn good with some sambal belacan!

Their yam puffs or ‘wo-kok’ is among the better ones I’ve tasted.

Besides that, they have a few varieties of steamed paus which are really good. PiggyBeng loves their char-siew-pau and siew mai very much (if you noticed from the 1st photo on this post). For myself, I will normally go for the yong-tau-fu items as they were really good especially the stuffed brinjal or aubergine. Sometimes, I will order their cheong-fun (steamed rice rolls) too but theirs is still far from those I ate in Hong Kong but beggars can’t be choosers right???

Then, while shopping on new year eve recently, I decided to pop by and check the place out (that is how back-dated this post is!) since I don’t know what to eat for lunch and only have Baby G with me. I would not have done it if I have the two kids with me.

Subsequently, I went another 2 more times. Once was with my cousin when she came for a visit in mid January and another time I went with the entire RamblingMoo troop to celebrate PiggyBeng’s success in passing his test on Valentine’s Day.

What is so special about this syabu-syabu place is that, it is served in buffet style instead of those that comes in sets. I just like the buffet, eat-all-you-can style! At least I can have a choice of picking what I like to eat and omit or avoid eating things I don’t like. The one thing I like most is the revolving belt (like Sushi King) that delivers plates of ingredients to all the tables in the restaurant. You don’t really need to leave your table except to get the drinks and some cooked food placed near the door.

On each table (normally sits 4 person) will have 2 hot pots on their table. There are about 4 types of soups to choose from – clear, kimchi, tom yam and salted vegetable. I kinda like the salted vegetable but it was a little too salty after cooking all the ingredients. Thus, the clear soup is highly recommended especially eating with kids.

As for the items that goes around on the belt, it differs all the time depending on the time of the day. For lunch, you don’t get certain stuff since the price for lunch and dinner is slightly different.

On both occasions which I went during lunch time, there were load of serves of fish maws… which happened to be my favorite! I have so much of it and my soup tasted so good at the end of the day!

For those who has good appetite, they can also feast themselves with some of the cooked food such as sushi, okonomiyaki (Japanese fried cabbage pancake) fried garlic rice, fried udon and etc…

To me, the star of the meal are these…

Itelyu, these ‘yakiniku’ or  sliced pork bellies are to die for!!!! They really melt in the mouth when cooked right in the hot pot! *drool* The best sauce to go with these are some shoyu (light soy sauce) + crushed cili padi (bird eyes chilies) + lemon juice. It sent me to Heaven right away!

Even Baby G enjoyed herself on all three occasions though she made loads of mess and noises!!!

If you go alone, you can actually sit on their counter which overlooking the Penang Bridge from their tall glass windows.

Darrius enjoyed bringing all the plates down from the revolving belt but all he ate was the sausages and the quail eggs! *bang head on the wall* Luckily he can still eat for free then!

And on Valentine’s Day, which we went for their dinner we had these really huge bamboo clams…

I don’t mind dining in Tsurukame again as I really like the ambiance of the place and the staff are all very friendly. Though the place is not too baby friendly as their table is placed on platform so you can’t pull the baby chair close to the table. Other than that, it is a nice place to dine since it air-conditioned.

For lunch, it is approximately RM30/pax and for dinner is about RM34/pax. Children below 105cm eat for free, else they have to pay about RM10/pax (if I remembered correctly).

This year my birthday fell on a Friday which is one of my favorite day. PiggyBeng works half day on Friday so it was a good day… no less. The day went on smoothly though there are still a few yelling sessions since I have 2 monkeys at home!

Initially we have no idea where we shall go for dinner since I am not expecting any grand celebration. To me (or to us) it is just another excuse to pig out only! So, in the afternoon, PiggyBeng asked what I would like to eat and I casually mention to have buffet. Checked a few places and at the end we decided to go for G-Hotel’s BBQ Seafood Buffet. We have seen the buffet each Friday whenever we are in Gurney Plaza and finally we went to try it!

Verdict? I must say it was pretty good! Not that the food was excellent but edible and quite value for money. In fact for the price it was much better compared to Equatorial Hotel which we went last year. Food was so-so and Baby G kicked up a big fuss so we did not enjoy the dinner at all. That was why I hardly snap any photos to blog about it!

This year was slightly better since Baby G is already 14-month old. She can self feed so we managed to keep her quiet by giving her food which kept her busy for a while.

The fresh food counter is also another popular venue since one can have unlimited serve of fresh oysters and salmon sashimi…

The fresh fruits counter is a hit with kids since they have all kind of fruits on skewers ready to go through the chocolate fountain at the end of the table…

Darrius was having loads of fun as he can now walk about checking all the food counters out! PiggyBeng filled Darrius’s plate with food but he only ate 20% from there! The 80% he was gallivanting around the chocolate fountain having endless skewers of strawberries and other fruit sticks!

We have to go to the al-fresco area to collect the BBQ stuff. There were salmon, XXL prawns, cat fish, squid rings as well as cray fish which the hotel staff referred as ‘lobsters’!

I dare not take too much fresh oysters and the salmon sashimi though I was dying to. I am still breastfeeding Baby G so it was not advisable to have to much of those.

Therefore, I decided to have more of the ‘lobsters’ which was extremely popular among the other diners…

The BBQ crayfish tasted damn good with the assam jawa (tamarind) sauce. The spicy and sourish taste made one feel so hungry! I am salivating when I am typing this!!!!

Before I decided to call it a day, I die-die must try this particular jello+custard with that berry on top. Not sure what was the name but it sure tasted really yummy!

Now you know why Baby G was nicked name Samseng Girl??? She chewed off the straw even the bottle is less than 3 months old!!!! We can’t leave her with things else she will destroy them in seconds!!!

I did not bake any cake for myself and PiggyBeng did not buy any either. Instead, he went to ask the hotel staff if he can get me a complimentary cake…

Though I am another year older, it was a true blessing to have my 3 babies with me to celebrate the day together.

And that wraps up my birthday for 2011!

Initially I read from the news that the part of Gurney was not affected but when we reached Gurney Plaza, I was dismay that they too switched off their pipes and only opened 1 toilet on each floor. Well, no choice so we walked on…

It was school holiday still and when we arrived it was almost lunch time. As usual, I really know where to go for lunch in Gurney though they have so many food outlets. I have to find places which are suitable for the kids and decided to check out the one and only theme cafe; The Clinic Cafe on the 4th floor which was previously occupied by the Food Loaf.

When we entered we were greeted by some of the staff whom brought us to our seats which I have chosen to sit at where were once sat during our visit to Food Loaf. After settling down, it was photo time and the first shot of the place is their ‘counter’ which they named it as surgery room… which is where the drinks and food were prepared…

While waiting for the waiter to come take our orders, I caught Glennedine trying to ‘flirt’ with the people on the next table! *o*

There were not much varieties as most are repeated stuff like what and what on fried rice/spaghetti. I would say the pricing is a little on the high side for the type of food but guess they have to cover the rental since that place is huge!!! And the waiter we had… aiyo! I suspected that he is very new coz he was really bad with his service! He don’t know much about the menu and I have to repeat to him so many times beside him going back and forth the counter to find out! *duh!*

They were having some lunch specials so I decided to order from there instead since it came with a drink. Had their Prawns Fried Rice which tasted quite ok. The prawns were not fresh though -_- The presentation was ok too which goes well with the theme. So, my fried rice came in the kidney dish!

And knowing Darrius can’t finish that much food if I order another plate of rice or spaghetti for him, I asked if he would like to have some sandwiches instead? Since we were still in between their breakfast and lunch menu, I ordered from their breakfast set promo menu.

Darrius and his sandwiches and a glass of frizzy drink which was actually Sunquick mixed with soda water. Don’t taste that nice but they have quite a nice name for it though!!!!

Overall, I quite like the cleanliness of the place. I would say the ambiance was ok too just that they have too many staff walking about or standing there watching you! Food were quite slow to come even though not many customers. And the drinks are so over-priced!

This was not our only time there so will blog about the other visit soon!

On Darrius’s actual birthday after we had breakfast (the famous beef noodles in Taman Tayton) and dropped PiggyBeng at the KLIA Express station, we adjourned to Kidz Sport at Bangsar Village Shopping to celebrate his day with his cousin, Adrian. At the same time I wanted to check out Marmalade Cafe after hearing so much about it from fellow blogging mommies. So, after checking the kids in to Kidz Sport, together with my parents and my brother, off we went to Marmalade.

It was not that crowded when we arrived so we got the bench seat on the platform area. While everyone was checking out the menu, little Ms Samseng do not want to lose out too so kau-fu gotta entertain her…

I would say the ambiance for the place was quite pleasant… bright and cheery since it was situated at the corner of the building with glass windows around. I was told that there is a children play area but silly me has forgot to check out that place since the kids were not around except Baby G. Anyway, I managed to see the kid’s area on another occasion which I will blog about later.

Since we just had breakfast not too long ago, my dad said he don’t want to have anything which is too heavy so he decided to order from the bakery. He had their bread pudding cake which came with some cream and a scoop of ice-cream. According to dad it tasted quite good.

Next it was what my mom ordered. For the very first time she had beef lasagna! She was never a beef eater previously but turning into one lately. Must be my dad been telling her that she has missed a lot of great food if she do not want to eat beef!

The lasagna tasted quite ok too though it was pretty rich with all those cheeses and cream! After all, we had late breakfast that morning! Mom can’t finish on her own so dad helped her (that was why dad did not order any main dish as he knew mom can’t finish her food!)

Next was what I ordered…

It was some Masala chicken with fried brown rice. Ok, I must say that the fried brown rice tasted a little weird… kinda sticky. However, the Masala chicken tasted quite ok too. It came with a small jar of gravy, some vege and a piece of papadum.

My brother only had a cup of tea as he had brunch just before he joined us.

Most of the main dishes are less than RM20 so I would say they are quite affordable since the cafe is nestled in a so-called high end shopping mall. The pricey items are their drinks which cost at least RM8/glass (juices) except soft drinks. It is a nice place for catch-up sessions with friends with kids since they also have Kid’s Menu which I did not get to see on that day but ordered from on another day.

They have quite a good varieties but due to the fact that I wanted certain ingredients in my bowl, I was left with only limited choice and I ended up ordering their smoked black pepper chicken noodles with their original sauce.

Darrius had their smoked original drumstick noodles since he has to share it with Glennedine. Like what listed in their menu, the noodles are indeed very springy which I really like but taste wise just so-so. Their pricing is considered reasonable. I would like to try their curry noodles if I visit them again.

Was supposed to meet up with Oscar’s Mommy but at the last minute she has to go for viewing so we just went ahead with our plans. With no ideas for to head for lunch, I just find a place which is convenient and with lot of space. We opted for Garden Cafe. It was my 3rd time there but it was my first time trying their set lunch.

Since I was lunching with the kids and they don’t eat that much I decided to order just 1 set to be shared among ourselves. We had their Seafood Marianna Spaghetti. It was nothing to shout about but I must say their serving was huge… well, there was a lot of spaghetti but the seafood was however… limited. The set came with a bowl of soup and a glass of ice lemon tea.

The kids like the ambiance.. especially Darrius as he was clowning around after the waiter took our order. When the food came, he made all those stupid faces as he knew I am snapping photos of him and the food….

I forgot to bring my camera so I used my mobile phone’s camera so the quality was not so good. The photos came out quite dark so have to use PS to make some adjustments.

The trip turned out to be quite an enjoyable one and both kids behaved quite well since I told them that we will leave if they are naughty.

So, what is the verdict? From my experience, their egg tarts were really nice so I ordered some again this round. Not too bad but I found they are not ‘baked’ enough compared to the time when I had my steamboats. I found the char-siu-sou tasted better as the skin was really flaky.

Another items which I found to be slightly different is these…

Mini yam basket with scallop. The yam basket/crust was so-so as it was too thin. Tasted a little burnt too. The filling is the same as char-siu-bao just that it has a slice of scallop on top.

We also ordered these…

They looked really crispy but they were not when I bite on them. The air has made them tough instead so they were quite oily! The filling were minced prawns with some meat if I’m not mistaken.

Then saw something flaky looking and got one to try. It was a salted lotus paste fried dumpling. Tasted quite ok but the skin was not as flaky as it looked.

And lastly, ordered a plate of cheong fun to try and I’ll have to say the sauce was not as good as the one at Red Tea House but the texture of the cheong fun was pretty good. At least it was thin and soft.

Will we go back? I don’t know. The place was extremely crowded and service was pretty poor since they have only minimal staff on duty. It took a long time for them to clear the table and the ordering process was a little screwed up at the counter. Maybe other days of the week the crowd will be tamer but Sunday is not a good day dining there. However, they have a small playland for the kids but it was FILTY! Nonetheless, Darrius rather play in there than eat! O_0

Actually I did not get any ‘wind’ that they will be opening here at all until a few nights ago, a bento mommy blogged about her trip to the newly opened restaurant. Well, I could hardly believe it at first but after googled and found they indeed opened a new outlet here! Woohoo!!!

Without any hesitation, we went the next day to check the place out…

The location is rather ‘weird’ as this place is kind of ‘out of the way’ to many of us. It is located on a roll of new shops facing the seafront next to the Jelutong Highway called The Promenade. It is just next to these new 3-storey link houses project called the Nautilus Bay. BK is the only shop (they took 2 of the ground floor units) operating at the moment as the other tenants are still not operational yet.

We arrived shortly after 5pm so the place is still quite ok. We managed to park right in front and we can still choose our table since not many diners. There were only 2 counters opened so ordering was quite slow… since the staff are still ‘newbies’ so not going to complain on that.

I ordered a Whopper Meal and PiggyBeng had the Double Whopper Meal. Since we have one of their leaflet, we got a F.O.C Jr. Whopper which was just nice for Darrius! So happened when my turned came, they were out of fries so they offered me the onion rings instead… Yah! Else I’ll have to top up another 50 sen to get that.

Though I knew BK’s burgers have shrunk quite a bit but they are still way better than McD! That one, not only shrunk, their burger patties tasted like tree bark!

I must say the amount of beef PiggyBeng had that evening was more potent than any best male enhancement! *chuckled* We were lucky to arrived early as the dinner crowd came shortly after we tucked into our meal. The queues were long even at the Alfresco dinning outside the restaurant.

Now, with BK on the island, at least we have an alternative when we wanted to have some burgers. We are quite tired of Chili’s burgers since we have been eating them almost every other month.

After our meal, we walked to the opposite of the road to check out the stretch of new walkway over looking the Mainland and Penang Bridge…
