On the Wall of Fame

If you are on my FB list, you would have seen this already. Heh! Blogging took a back seat now as it requires me to blih-bleh more so need time to write! This post took me 2 days as Baby G is super duper cranky these few days!!! Cry baby, clingy baby, screaming baby… anything you can think of!!!!

On the 9th of September 2009, Darrius recorded a milestone when we decided that he should start his schooling years… before her mama pops! And fast forward, it has been a year he attended kindy. How time flies! :D

When he started last year, he was obviously ‘lost’ since he don’t speak a word of Mandarin at home as his class was conducted in a full Mandarin environment. Also, it was nearing the school holidays so it was just a ‘trial’ period for him since there were not much teaching already. Only  from the beginning of this year he started to ’study’ formally though still on ‘honeymoon’ but the teachers did warned me that from 5 years old onward, it gets more serious since we intend to send Darrius to a Chinese school. Imagine, most of his classmates were already trained a year above him (he is also among the youngest in class). He knows nothing about Mandarin and Bahasa Malaysia at all when he started.

And now, the Lil’ Monkey has done us proud when his name graced the school’s wall not on vandalism charge but being top on the list! :D

What surprised me most is this…

We were totally blown over! The school actually gave us the list of activities but being a ‘busy’ mama (busy with Baby G, blogging, FB and making bento mah!), I stuffed that piece of paper behind some stacks of papers and forgot about it Totally! It was embarrassing that I only found out about Darrius’s little achievements through his teacher 2 days ago! The lists have been up the school’s bulletin board for quite sometime as the first competition was way back in May! They put up the list sometime in August when they moved the bulletin board from upstairs to downstairs where the parents rest while waiting for school hours end. When MIL was in Germany for 3 months, I have to bring Baby G along when I go and fetch Darrius from school so I never enter the school but wait outside while the teacher bring Darrius to the car.

Darrius can even converse in Mandarin now… though not very fluent but at least can speak and understand what we or other people say! Woohoo! He even teach his daddy how to read! Sometimes he will even ask his daddy questions in Mandarin which the daddy can’t even understand or answer!

This week is his 2nd term exam and hopefully he can do as well as he has done in the competitions! I told him that if he did well, I will reward him with something he likes. He has asked for a bicycle and a basketball. Will get him the bicycle next year when we moved to our new place so will probably get him one of those personalized basketballs from the sport shop with his name engraved on it. He will be thrilled I think!!!! :D

Wow, he’s first place in a BM and Mandarin competition? That’s really good!

By the way, I notice that he has a mole at the side of his mouth – that’s probably why he’s so good with languages :D
