When Darrius met Glennedine
Since Glennedine came unannounced in the middle of the night, there were some plans we had earlier which has to be shelved. As PiggyBeng did not get to arrive on time and Darrius went to the hospital with me, I can’t do a lot of stuff which I had planned together with PiggyBeng. So, we have to twist some of them around. One of the plans was to introduce the brother to the sister with a gift exchange.
On our previous trip KL, I asked Darrius what he would like his Mei-mei to give him when they met? As he is ‘infactuated’ with anything that has wheels on, he told me he wanted a trolley bag just like one of those his classmates has. Coincidentally, PiggyBeng was on a biz trip to Brazil so I took the opportunity to ask him to scout for one since he gets to transit in Singapore, Hong Kong, Chicago and Tokyo. Luckily PiggyBeng managed to find the ‘perfect’ gift in one of the duty free shops that sell many promotional products in Changi Airport on his flight home.
During that time we were in KL so I brought Darrius shopping with me and I asked him to buy a pressie to give to his mei-mei. After looking at the many things, we found something ‘perfect’. Darrius said Mei-mei is a girl so must have everything pink! As we will be attending my cousin’s wedding next year, these items seemed so appropriate! I also do not want Darrius to choose any toys in any case he will ‘fight’ with Glennedine later over the ‘toys’.
So, these are what Darrius gave to Glennedine…
.
.
Darrius met his Mei-mei briefly before he went home with my parents that night. When PiggyBeng arrived in the morning, I told him to bring Darrius’s gift along and we hid it in the room before my dad brought Darrius in the afternoon to visit me.
When I met Darrius, I asked him if he ‘loves’ Mei-mei? And guess what? He asked ‘Where is the present???’ Aiyoh! This boy ah!
Then the nurse pushed Glennedine in and Darrius went high and low searching for his ‘present’ from Mei-mei. I have to tell him that Mei-mei left it in the other room and I will call the nurse to bring it in later. Luckily he bought the idea so we distracted him with the cartoon on the TV before placing the wrapped present under Glennedine’s little trolley bed.
After a few minutes, we told him to see if the present has arrived or not? (Lucky thing he has short term memory so he forgot about the nurse and the pressie)
Darrius was excited when he saw the wrapped pressie and asked immediately what was inside? We told him to open it up himself to see…

And here is what Glennedine gave to kor-kor…

The ‘gift exchange’ is a very good bonding exercise for the new siblings. At least Darrius did not feel threaten by his sister’s arrival. In fact he will ’sayang’ his Mei-mei and kept saying Mei-mei is so small and cute.

Good boy, Darrius! Told you what no need to worry so much
Lucas has got his pressie already but he hasn’t got a present for the girl yet. Recently, I showed him the Toys R Us catalogue and he said he wanted to buy her the Fisher-Price infant-to-toddler rocker LOL
I was thinking of getting it too but didn’t tell him about it. Guess great minds think alike
By the way, I’ve set up a new blogspot coz tired of uploading photos via Wordpress!
That’s a good start!
Awww Darrius will be such a wonderful kor kor. I almost cried when I read this post. I just love to witness love between siblings. sob sob
Darrius is such sweetie. For a start he did not give any fuss following your parents home.
Enjoy your confinement.

Yvonne & Chanel,
now loving but I can’t say for days ahead!!!!
KittyCat,
At least Lucas can pick something on his own… for Darrius I have to keep asking him or else he will wander off and look for his own toys!
Paik Ling,
Aiyo… you har! I think all your boys behave much better than my monkey Darrius. He don’t even want to share anything with his nephew now so I can’t imagine when he needs to share with Glenn one day….
etcmommy,
Probably he was tired and sleepy…. and also we have been prepping him about ‘this’ day for a looooong time just that we never imagine that it was not his daddy that he will be sleeping with but his grandparents…. but he was happy coz he can sleep in his cousin’s cot!
eh…i too had this gift exchage exercise when Kylie was born..err…kinda not working for me as Kieran continues to feel threatened by Kylie’s presence and till today asks why can’t he be the only child…sigh…
Darrius looks so gentle when he sayang the Mei Mei….good boy wor.
