Darrius celebrated his 4th birthday @ School
Darrius’s actual birthday falls on 21st of November but we decided to give him a small celebration in his kindy a few days earlier as we need to travel back to KL on his actual birthday. Initially we thought of having the celebration tomorrow (Friday) but it is the kindy’s Children’s Day so I picked to do it yesterday (Wednesday) instead.
This year, the birthday boy made a special request for his birthday cake and this heavily preggy mama at 36 weeks gestation has to oblige to the request. The request is quite unusual but big and frumpy mama was extremely glad that it is not another Thomas the Tank cake!!!
It definitely helped lessen the energy and effort as I am having problem standing for too long! In fact, I got a bad leg cramp on the night I completed the cakes!
So, this is the birthday boy’s cake for his 4th birthday…

His request for a cake ‘filled with carrots’ was really something out of my guesses. Why carrots??? I think it was during a time when I was surfing some cake blogs that we stumbled on a Bugs Bunny cake which has a cake that filled with carrots that attracted him. I asked him if he wanted the Bugs Bunny and he said ‘NO’. So, a cake with carrots it is! Besides the cake, which was a mini one, I baked another 2 dozens of cupcakes for his classmates as it will be easier to distribute them since the class can get really noisy and chaotic!
There was a little ‘accident’ with the cake as it was under bake. I think I set the temperature a little too high and it was burnt on the top but the centre was still wet after I cooled the cake…. so it collapsed in the middle! Also, I suspected the eggs were too big so it has more moisture… that could be another reasons. Anyway, I managed to salvage the cake by cutting away the centre (where the soggy part is) and plopped a cupcake to strengthen it! After I iced it, it can’t be seen any more!
And here are the cuppies…

To go with the ‘tradition’ of class parties, I also packed some party packs for his classmates. As I do not have much time to scout and shop for stuff, I only managed to pack simple party packs. In the packs: Mango pudding, Oreo cookies, raisins, Twisties and Kokojelly. Maybe next year will prepare something more ‘extraordinary’ to be different…

He can’t wait to lay his hands on those little ‘carrots’!.
