Hari Raya in Singapore 2009 – Part 1

For the past few years, we have been traveling to Singapore during the Hari Raya break which is by pure coincidence. From 2006 to 2009, we were there 4 times except for last year when we decided to coincide with one of PiggyBeng’s biz trip a few days before Singapore’s national day.

This time we purposely (well, more like a request by me) stop by Lion City en-route to Perth since we are flying with SIA (no direct flight from Penang to Perth). It is also a chance for me to go food binging… yeah, I put on a few kilos within that 3 days!!!! We arrived on Sunday and left on Wednesday morning.

Breakfast @ Kris Flyer lounge, Penang Airport

We stayed at my uncle’s place this time simply because of convenience… and also his place has a coffee shop which its noodles I have been craving for… :P We only ate they once as they were close on Monday and on Tuesday we has to be in the airport early in the morning… at least I get to satisfied my craving lar! I’m such a glutton!

On the day we arrived, the first thing was to go get a bite of my favorite boneless chicken rice in one of the coffee shop at Bedok Interchange (no photo) and after lunch we went to check out the new mall in Tampines – Tampines 1. If I’m not mistaken, it was the old Sogo building so the mall is pretty small… and with the high excahnge rate, PiggyBeng won’t allow me to ’shop’ :( Ended up we only bought some snacks before we took a bus to Bedok Interchange again since Darrius wanted to ride on the bus and we were supposed to meet my uncle and his family for dinner at Jin Loong. While waiting we brought Darrius to the nearby playground to release some of his energy….

We ordered almost the same food as last year but this time round we had crabs! :) Too bad we were too tired and hungry that we did not take any photos…

On the next day was a public holiday. We were supposed to meet my friend and her family for lunch but decided to check out Vivo City first after breakfast (Katong Laksa near to Bedok Stadium). The mall was soooooooooo crowded that I have to put on a mask while inside! It was really hot outside but we still went for some photo shots just for memory sake…

We had lunch at the food court since PiggyBeng could not decide what to eat. Nothing fancy, I had SIngapore Hokkien Mee and PiggyBeng had a fake Pho. Then we went around the Mooncake Festival event square to taste some mooncake before we walked over to Harbourfront for another round of makan! I had my beef noodles at the food court (it is so tough to find beef noodles these days!) but the taste was HORRID! Darrius was so tired that he dozed off so we have to let him zzz for about 30 minutes before we left.

Since my friend is staying around Red Hill, we decided to catch a bus to her place. Darrius was bugging us for a bus ride… so we just obliged! It was a good ride as we get to catch glimpses of some pensacola condos look alike on the way.

And when we reached my friend’s place, Darrius spent no time bringing all his friend’s toys out…

Mommy… I loves these toys!

.

Darrius and Matthew last saw each other a year ago but they constantly got reminded by their mommies about each other. Both love Thomas and since they are the same age… they just clicked! Besides rummaging through all the toys, both boys had fun with bubbles and cycling before we went for Dinner at Siglap… Cafe Cartel… again! :P

This time we had another family joined us for dinner…

Miss Momo and her parents were there with us this time. The last time we saw her she was one little cute ball and now she has turned into a pretty princess.  How time flies! Like usual, we ordered the famous pork ribs but this time Matthew’s dad and PiggyBeng were a little adventurous and decided to check out something new in their menu… Pork Knuckle! I was too busy handling a crancy Darrius hence no photos again… :P

After dinner, we have wanted to go by East Coast Park to let the boys play with their lanterns but the weather was not too cooperative… it started to drizzle. Since Matthew’s parents need to work the next day, we decided to call it a day. Darrius was extremely disappointed about it! He was so looking forward to play his lanterns…
