Weekends and etc…

I think I have been too caught up with my cupcake blog theme and header that I have kind of neglected this blog. There are tones of back dated posts but I still can’t really find the time to catch up as I have yet to go look for the photos which PiggyBeng has downloaded in the PC in our room.

Just want to jot down what we have been doing the past two weekends where I do not have that many cupcake orders to fuss over. On 14th March, we went to our very first Food Festival/Battle Of The Chefs which was held in PISA together with the FooDex – Food Exhibition. It was their 12th year running.

We went at 9 am as we worried that we might not be able to find a good parking lot. True enough, we have to park far away even when we reached PISA before 9.30 am! Only later did I found out that some of the events start as early as 9am. Well, for one thing, I missed the patisserie event which I hoped to catch. We have to pay RM3 to enter the event hall.

And I must say bad luck was looming over me that day as my camera batteries died-ed on me!!! Walked back to the car to get spares but only to discover there were none! Luckily managed to snap a few before it was auto shut-off. What a bummer! :( And here are the only few shots I had…

I noticed that most of the competitors are college students so I must say their work are quite amateur. Like the fondant cake above, it is quite normal to me as I have seen some really out of the world creations on the web… or even some from the home bakers here.

However, another group of display caught my attention. The following are made of bread… which I think should take a looooong time to do as bread needs to proof first.

There are some work on this particular display are quite nice but just too bad my batteries are flat after I snapped the above bread hut. We went around checking those competition booth before we went out to get some food as it was already lunch time. Bought some Kajang Satay from a stall outside the indoor stadium. Then we went around all the exhibition booths where there are lots of food tasting going on.

On last Saturday I had a cupcake order but the customer came early to collect so we still have some time in the evening and decided to bring Darrius to the Esplanade to fly kite. It was a very windy evening but too bad PiggyBeng did not managed to get the kite up! And since Darrius was screaming his lungs out that he wanted to fly the kite, we came up with a solution…

Yeah, fly it this way… :P You don’t need strong wind for that!

Some part of the field was filled with muddy patches so we let Darrius run on the ‘tennis court’ instead. Well, you must be wondering why there is a tennis court in the middle of the field? Actually, this court was ‘built’ temporary for the failed to take place King of Tennis event last year. It has been more than 5 months but nothing has been done to it yet. I heard that MPPP wanted to remove the court but they are still awaiting for some orders from the ministry. While we were there I saw a few MPPJ people in their walking boots walking about the field. Not sure what they are doing though.

This weekend we will stay home as I have a few orders to complete. It is raining anyway, so it is nice to stay home! :P

I was actually in Penang two consecutive weekends for work, March 21 (G Hotel) and March 27-29 (Parkroyal Ferringhi). Was thinking of looking you up but not sure if our schedule would permit. And guess what, I’ll be in Penang again from April 10-12.

wow, the bread creations look amazing! I admire people for such patience… it must’ve taken ages to make! I don’t think i could ever do that myself… I’m too impatient and i don’t think i have the skill nor the time to learn how to do it.
