CNY @ Kek Lok Si

Nice or not?

After 4 years wait (for me) and many-many years for PiggyBeng, we finally braved the human traffic and went up to Kek Lok Si for the CNY light-up. Every year, during CNY, Kek Lok Si will have very beautiful light up where you will see scores of locals and tourists packed the place. It is impossible to get parking if you go late! You’ll probably get stuck in the jam!

I must say the view was breath taking but the journey sucks! Add on with the extremely hot and humid weather during this season.

We have to walk for more than 2km to reach the bottom of the pagoda. We parked our car at Kampung Melayu and walk to Kek Lok Si. We were lucky to do so as the entire place was packed with humans and cars!

Hundreds of lanterns at the foot of the pagoda but none along the way!

.

When we reached the entrance, we have to walk up a flight of stairs. In the beginning part, there were still lights coming from shops which are still open for business but half way up the entire place was pitch dark! I can’t understand why the lousy management did not bother to put up any  lights along the steps so that people who are visiting at night could at least see the steps (since this is a yearly affair)! People have to keep pressing their mobile phone for some light. And the best part was, when we reached the first stop, we can see a big donation table (image below, the table is in pink skirting) with a monk (with a loud speaker) soliciting for donation for the building/upgrading funds. Can’t they at least put up some lights from the fund for the ease of people going up? duh!

Darrius in his Moo-moo cloth diaper!

.

We did not go to the top but just around the first level below where the pagoda is.  There were just too many people and since Darrius refused to walk, PiggyBeng has to carry him most fo the way. He only stand and take photos and will asked to be carried after that. What kind of syndrome is that??? *scratch head*

This is the furthest we went since there are more flight of stairs so we decided to just walk around and not climb further.

Love these bottles of candles. There were many being lighted up inside the temple as well as outside. Not sure what they are for though since your truly here is a banana… :P

We were done around 9pm I think (after I glanced over unconsciously at the Swiss Army watches wore by a few Caucasian tourists standing near us) and decided to go down before it is too late since PiggyBeng has to work the next day. Then we remembered my MIL is having dinner at the vegetarian restaurant there, we decided to pop by and say hello. They were the only table and according to her the food sucks and the drinks are expensive!! :P

Anyway, we are glad we made it there and back without having to spend much time in the traffic jam!

beautiful pictures you took there. it needs someone with steady hands to take pictures of lightings in the dark. You did a great job on the pictures.

we used to live right there on the street below KLS.
