Finally my Bento post is current! I just remembered that one of the Bento sites which I’ve been following is having a ‘Back to School Bento’ contest. As there were just too many happening this month, I hardly have time to think about the contest earlier. Since I have some time to prepare a bento for Darrius this morning before we go out, I decided to go with the contest theme. Hopefully I’ll win….
As Darrius will be going to school (fingers crossed) early next year, thus I have been spending time learning all the Bento packing. This is also another way to let him learn how to eat by himself as I normally leave him alone to finish up his Bento. I am proud to say he is quite good in finishing all the Bento I’ve prepared for him thus far and I can be sure he will eat his Bento when he is in school.
.

Top: Fried rice in egg omelet topped with ABC carrot, steamed broccoli and cherry tomatoes on a bed of lettuce
Bottom: Sliced fresh orange with 2 cheese cubes, green tea mochi and tomato ketchup in sauce container
.
I call this a ‘ABC Bento‘ as Darrius is crazy about ABC. For a 2.5 years old kid, he can recite his ABC very well and he just love to sing the ABC song. He loves the cheese cubes that I’ve packed here and of course the green tea mochi. However, he needs a little coaxing to finish up the orange slices though…

It has been a week already after the humongous China tainted milk scare. Now that they have recalled many items on the supermarket shelves, what is going to happen to those products which have been recalled?
Will they destroy all the products?
I was chatting with PiggyBeng and he asked me these questions…
1. Do you think they will dump all those milk and food away?
2. How sure are you that they will not keep them and bring out later and sell to consumers again?
3. They have been unethical and do you think they will continue to be unethical since this has involved lots of money being dumped away?
Ok. These questions has really put me on my thinking cap. Since there is no way we can escape from not using China made products how can we be certain that the future food imported from China are save to be consumed?
So, what do you think?

Last week I did not cook that often since PiggyBeng was away. Beside eating out I also bought some ‘take-away’. One of the meal we had was KFC. Can’t resist the current Spice Crunch promotion (which caused me to fall sick earlier).
I was shopping in Tesco and thought I’ll just pack some KFC home and slowly enjoy. So I bought the 3-piece chicken and the store manager was kind enough to let me have 2 Spicy Crunch and 1 Origional Recipe which Darrius can eat.
To make it more appealing, I put it in the Bento box and add some ’side’ dishes for him. Well, ended up Darrius finished the cheese cubes and the mochi but refused to eat the cucumber sticks. As for the KFC chicken, he only ate half of it.

The last couple of weeks I have been shopping… real hard… and losing control! You won’t believe it that I’ve ‘invested’ more than $300 on online shopping alone… well with shipping of course! I know this is getting more and more ‘dangerous’ but I just can’t help it! There just too many things I can find online which I can’t find from shops around here!!
First it was some baking gadgets and now it has flow to Bento collections as well as Thomas and Friends stuff since Darrius is bitten by the bugs! And I must say all these stuff don’t come cheap most of the time. I have so many Bento stuff now, they over flowed the box I bought to keep them! Some have to be squeezed in my MIL’s cabinets!
But the greed made me buy more and more!!!
Then a few nights ago while searching for some used Thomas and Friend’s VCDs I chanced upon a site selling lots of characters items and they were having Fall Sale… I found Thomas and Friends clothing at 50% off!!!! You tell me how to resist???? Haiyo! I ‘invested’ a cool $100 for a few sets.
And all those are meant for Darrius…
Maybe I should start to get something for myself… been longing to get another handbag since I don’t have to lug too many of Darrius stuff now. Maybe get a Coach bag???
Then I was thinking of getting another pair of good walking cum sport shoes since mine has gone k-o after not wearing for a few years. Saw some really cool keen shoes and also found out a few of them are on sale too… aiyoh so tempting!!!!
Must go and find more advertisers to put advertisements on my site so I can have some extra moolah to shop!

The toy box has been sitting quietly in one corner of our living room lately as Darrius has not been touching it for a while. I’ve dumped all his toys inside the box but he has not bothered to open it up and take any of his toys out. He gets bored real fast. His masak toys, his soft toys, cars, trucks and whats not are being ignored at the moment. Only on occasion he will take out his bag of blocks and entertain himself for a while.
Why?
Well, Darrius has a new love…
.

.
Jigsaw puzzles! He loves them so much that I’ve been buying for him to keep him busy.
Remember that day when I get really upset when he lost one piece of the Thomas the Tank puzzle set? Well, that did not deter me getting him new ones as I found some really cheap ones in Popular the other day. The one he is playing (pic) is 70 pieces and cost only RM2.99!!! If lost also not heart pain… hehehe
He used to play with those 12pcs to 30 pcs sets but I found that he finished them too fast and he don’t find them challenging anymore so I got to find those with more pieces for him.
Like Mommy Khong said, if one or a few pieces are missing, we should not fret as it will miraculously show up one day since it is only played within the house.

One thing I like about Penang is, it has afternoon wet markets here which is uncommon in KL. There is one just behind our house about 10 minutes walk away. Though PiggyBeng felt that they are more expensive, I think the convenience is justifiable. PiggyBeng rather drives all the way to the one in Cecil Street or commonly known as 7th Street market.
I was there on Tuesday and I found one of the bean sprout sellers was selling the cartoon fishcakes. This is the first time I saw those so I bought a few to try. Don’t ask me how they taste ok coz I only cook for Darrius…
.

Top: Orange cubes and pork balls with nori flakes
Bottom: Cartoon fishcake on rice with furikake and Cheese chicken cocktails and cherry tomatoes

Darrius finished all except some rice and some of the meatballs. I did asked him about the new fishcake and he said it tasted nice… can trust him hor?

Sometimes when PiggyBeng go for his business trip for a few days, I will be lazy to cook two meals a day. I know I can always cook one time and eat for two meals but it can be boring… So, instead of rotting at home, I will bring Darrius out and we dine out… sometimes for 2 meals in a day!
On Sunday, I brought Darrius to QBM again and we had lunch at Kenny Rogers. This is my first time having Kenny Rogers in Malaysia! My last Kenny Rogers meal was in Suntec City some 4-5 years ago!!! Geez… like so long ago! hahahaha
.

.
Darrius wasn’t too keen on the food. He just pick here and there and did not finish anything I gave him. He’s more keen to go bouncing on the sofa seat! I ordered the Quarter Chicken set… the portion is so small as compared to the one I used to have in Singapore… and it never come with drinks… oh well! Malaysia mah! At least their banana muffin tasted good.
I was not even full and I have to buy other food to fill up my tummy! Went to get another piece of roast chicken from Jusco and bough a huge box of Caramel popcorn from the Cinema…. yum! *slurp~*
Then was supposed to go for buffet lunch with MIL on Wednesday but some emergencies cropped up and MIL can’t go so we went yesterday instead. Initially I wanted to go G Hotel then I remembered Cititel is offering promotional price for senior citizen so MIL felt it is better that we go to Cititel since she can’t eat that much.
And who was the one having a blast and don’t have to pay a single cent?

Knowing that Darrius misses his regular Bento meals especially the ones with Soy Sauce Chicken, I decided to do one just for him the other day. This time I experiment with fry quail eggs in capsicums rings.
I sprinkled some nori flakes on the rice but the static from the plastic bento box made it looked a little untidy… oh well! We learn from trials and errors mah!
.

Top: Fried quail eggs in cupsicum rings on a bed of rice sprinkled with nori flakes and a piece of Kelsey Plum
Bottom: Pan fried soy sauce chicken drumstick on blached sweet peas and a cupsicum flower
.
Darrius’s eyes sparkled when he sees the chicken drumsticks! I know he missed having it since I stopped cooking this dish when he fell sick. Ended up he did not like the quail eggs in capsicum rings. He only took one. Unlike the hard boiled quail eggs I made earlier which he goggled down in no time.

Due to all the tainted milk scares… a lot of the milk companies in Malaysia are putting up press releases to calm their consumers. I guess if the milk is not something our kids take, we would not bother much but since our kids are the biggest consumers… we, as parents has to CARE!
This morning I have received emails forwards from fellow blogging mommies and it seems that most of the milk sold here are not affected but are we still as wary? I am! But after thinking long and short, Darrius only takes 16oz of milk a day so, I should not be too uptight about it.
According to some experts, if we do consume melamine in small amount it will be flushed out in our urine and is not life threatening unless we are taking above the limit for a long period.
For those of you who wants to know if the milk your kidos are taking is within the ’safe’ group, check out this list.
Well, guess I won’t want to lose sleep for this case… after all, we can always use the milk for beauty purposes Mama AnnieQ says…

PiggyBeng has stopped taking bread as he felt bread made him fat… bah! I don’t understand why they stopped selling the half loaf of bread here. I used to buy the half loaf when I was in Singapore but it is not popular in Malaysia. I always have difficulties finishing the entire loaf of Gardenia bread within a few days.. even with Darrius’s help.
Once the unfinished bread goes into the fridge, they are no longer soft so I will have to steam them or make french toast with them. So, here is another snack Bento I put up for Darrius…
.

Star and moon shaped red Pitaya with Pooh Bear shaped French toasts glazed with honey
.
Darrius love French toasts and he has no problem finishing that few slices. He even asked for more but that was all I left for him. I ate my share earlier….
