Lion City – Day 3

We woke up to a hazy morning…

day3-1.JPG

We had a long day on Friday which happened to be 08.08.08, the official opening night of the Olympic as well as the eve of Singapore’s National Day. Every where was packed with people! (I got to know from friends that some companies were closed and some students get off that day hence the heavy human traffic around the city)

Again, PiggyBeng had to rushed off to office leaving me and Darrius for most part of the day. That morning we decided to check out Kopi Tiam, the other restaurant serving breakfast at the hotel. According to the staff, most of the food served are similar to those in Swiss Cafe. We went down late as I was fumbling with my new contact lenses… hehehe (I’m a vain pot!) :P

There were lesser people in Kopi Tiam so I decided to have a really leisure breakfast and we did not go out until 10.30. I walked over to Adelphi (opposite Funan Centre) to check out some baking supply stuff (gosh they are expensive!). Spent about 30 mins there and a couple of $$$, we quickly make our way to the MRT station and head off to VIVO City. (Initially has wanted to go the day before so I will have time to go Jurong East) Guess what? On our way to the MRT station we bumped into an old diving buddy who happened to come back from Cayman Island for a vacation with her boyfriend! What a small world!!!!!

Once we reached Vivo, I walked past Crocs and was contemplating of getting a pair of but they don’t have the design I want… so too bad! Next stop is of course Daiso! Grabbed some more stuff there before checking out other places around the mall. It has changed quite a bit since our previous visit in last August.

They have added the small wading pools on the roof which over looking Sentosa as I don’t remember seeing them last year (I might have missed those). There are some statues/monuments/artistic objects as well as some very abstract looking things around the pools. It was too hot to venture further so we quickly go inside again as Darrius was making noises upon seeing some kids playing in the wading pools (told him I did not bring towel so he can’t get wet!). Was tempted to bring Darrius for the cable car ride but after considering that I have to lug his stroller as well as carrying him to board the cable car… I shelved the idea.

Darrius got really cranky so I bought him a cup of ice-cream and while waiting for him to finish up, a man approached me and asked me for a survey. He promised that it will be a short one but it has more than 10 pages and took me almost 20mins to complete!!! Darrius was getting restless as he wanted to get off his stroller.

For helping with the survey, I was given a Gloria Jean drink voucher. I quickly head over and collect my drink before heading back as PiggyBeng kept calling me and asking when I’ll be back… aarrggghhhh! Sometimes he don’t call at all and sometimes he calls so often when I’m having so much fun! *bleah~*

Anyhow, we still arrived before PiggyBeng. When I was about to get Darrius ready for his cheap thrill in the bath tub, PiggyBeng came back and decided to bring the Lil’ monkey to the swimming pool instead. I stayed back and pack my loot before joining them (trying to hide my loot or else he will starts to lecture me!!).

After cleaning up we pop over to SMU to exchange some stuff (get free exchange of eye solution – I’m a cheap skate! heh!). The entire place has changed so much with the university buildings in most of the places which used to be empty land before. Then from there we took a bus to Orchard Road. Wanted to bring Darrius to see the aquarium in Wisma Atria and found out it was gone! It is now being replaced by some cosmetic counters!!!! How sad! :(

Then we walked over to CK Tang and had dinner in Lucky Plaza as Darrius has dozed off on PiggyBeng’s shoulder. Then we took a bus to Bugis Junction before walking back to the hotel.

We did not shop for long as PiggyBeng wanted to catch the Olympic opening ceremony on TV (what a boring idea!!!! It was our last night in the hotel wor!!!). We watched for about 30 mins (PiggyBeng was bored as the TV is kind of small) and decided to have another pork ribs fix! So, we went down to the Cafe Cartel downstairs! (our second ribs meal in 2 days!) Staying in the heart of the city is really convenient!

It was so crazy to eat so heavily at such hour (almost 9pm when our ribs arrived) but what the hack! Darrius was having so much fun as he was not seated on a high chair so he was practically jumping about on the sofa seat! He went on to disturb other diners sitting on the next table too! :|

After our scrumptious supper, we decided to take a stroll to the Esplanade… after all, how often can we do that right? :P

It was really interesting as it was the eve of national day, so there was some concerts going on outside the ‘Durian Head Opera House’. There were loads of people mingling around too so we just join in the fun. We can see the Singapore Flyer with multicolors lighting as well as the floating stage which was getting ready for NDP (national day parade) the next day.

Walked over to the Merlion and snapped a few photos. In fact there were lots of people trying to snap the night scene around the bay. It was very windy so it was refreshing! :P

Darrius was of course having a ball of a time! He even monkeyed around when we tried to snap photos of him with the Merlion.

I have wanted to hop over to Fullerton Hotel but it was getting late so we decided to walk back. We took the underground walkway and saw the very long mural along the way and thought it would be nice to snap some photos as remembrance…
