Spelling bee

PiggyBeng has been warning me to not teach Darrius too much, too soon as when it is time for him to go to school he will be bored since he already knew most of the basic stuff. He can recite A-Z and 1-20 now and through his own effort, he is doing more than I expect him to.

Out of the blue he has started to spell words on those books! I never teach him those. Most of the time I just read to him and never once I tried to push him to spell. I was really caught off guard this time. Being a lazy busy mama, I was hoping the teachers to do the job but I’ve never dreamed that Darrius will do it on his own! :)

Ah… so proud of him!

Now, when ever it strike his fancy, he will be a spelling bee pointing and reading out loud each letter from a word he sees.

  9. Wow he is a fast learner. Im surprise too u know, my baby Angel learn thing really fast. She now know how to open her straw cup top cap before she sip from it and knows how to close it back! Maybe she’s been observing me doing it.

So make sure we set good example to our kids. They learn from us man!

    :)

You are certainly doing a very great job there and Darrius gets that gene from his mommy and daddy! Maybe next time he can come to USA for the annual Spelling Bee Scripts Competition to represent Malaysia!! They do have contestants from Canada, South Korea and India, you know.

  14. Angeline says:

I hope your hubby is just joking! If a kid is ready, parents should teach TO MEET THE LEVEL OF THE KID, not base on his age. My boys are 15 months apart, but my younger one (who is NOT even in kindy yet) could do almost as well as his older brother….call him a super kid if you want….

it will not bored them when they know the basic stuff…

when they go to school with all these background knowledge, it
    - boosts their confidence
    - acts as a revision for better memory and application
    - speeds up their learning

hope you guys don’t stop…or it would be a waste!

  15. clever boy Darrius !!

Angeleyes, I think you are so admirable in making the effort to prep Darrius up for pre-school. wish I could do so, but have to leave it to Sesame Street and BusyTown Huckle to teach Ashley for now.
