Father’s Day treat @ Jarrod & Rawlins

Last Sunday was Father’s Day and we took the opportunity to have an excuse to pig out celebrate at another porky place in Damansara. For 2 consecutive weeks, we had pork dishes… a bit too much hor?

This time we went to Jarrod & Rawlins in the new wing of 1U. It is quite a quiet place enclave in one corner of the mall opposite a Nyonya cafe. Obviously it is a non-halal place hence the lack of crowd.

It has a mixed of deli and cafe style. They even have a bar top in the centre of the restaurant. In fact it has quite a huge space considering most of the tables are placed in the inner part of the restaurant.

The star of the night is my Dad of course so we ordered the Father’s Day Special for him which he shared with my mom. It was a huge serving of a whole Pork Knuckle, 2 sausages (1 normal and 1 spicy), 2 slices of bacons and a generous amount of fries served with 4 different dips. The skin of the pork knuckle was really good… very crispy.

For myself, I can’t really decide what to have and then I saw their ‘New Offering’, I immediately ordered the Baby Pork Ribs which is my favorite. It is not full slab… more like 3/4 slab (8pcs) and priced slightly cheaper than the one we had at Riblee’s (where we had 12pcs/full slab). However, taste wise it was not as good… rather dry and the meat was tough and a little burnt. I prefer the ribs at Riblee’s… more succulent and juicy. It is served with Black Pepper Sauce as well as 2 dips. I quite like their Apple sauce dip which is not too sweet and fragrant.

My brother ordered Pork Chop from their ‘deli’ where he can choose the meat and the staff will grill it for him. He has to add RM12 for a side dish (mash potato or salad) and as ‘grilling’ fees. He chose a not so lean pork belly so it tasted quite good. Very tender and the fats melt in the mouth. My mom likes it very much but she can’t eat too much. I find the presentation was a little bland… they should have put some parsley to give it some colors.

For my SIL, se selected a very lean (hardly any fats) pork loin from the deli as she is still on a diet so is cutting down on fatty food. She has mixed salad as her side which really looked good on the plate. I should have ordered similar dish but was a little hesitated since I have not much of an idea how the system works.

Overall we had a nice meal except we have 2 screaming kids again… what is new right? And to end the dinner, I brought some fruity cupcakes as a Father’s Day present for my dad and brother. I did not do anything elaborate as I do not have enough time. Luckily I have some really nice strawberries and blueberries which are perfect for the cupcakes.

One thing about the place is, their service was good and drinks is FREE FLOW! We ordered Ice-lemon tea and I had 2 glasses of it… The staff are very friendly and helpful. Guess this is a huge plus… especially when you have kids. The only thing they lack is, they do not have plastic wares for kids… maybe this is something they should consider to add into their kitchen wares.
