Call me ‘kiasu’ (afraid to lose) . I started to read to Darrius since he was a fetus in my tummy. By doing so, I hope to instill the ‘love to read’ habit to Darrius as he grows. I am glad that he loves books now and will always pick up one to read when he’s not in the mood to play. In fact I kept some of his books in the hall, our room as well as our cars so he can reach for one at any time. I even get him to read to me while I’m feeding him his meals!
I always go books hunting for him but most of the time I ended up buying quite similar books where most of them don’t covers everything but rather the same thing in the entire book. Darrius will get bored after a while as he is reading the same thing over again.

When I received the Let’s Get Ready series from Cedar Valley Publishing for a review, I could not be happier as these books are what I have been searching for. Even Darrius was ecstatic when he saw me unwrapping them. I have to tell him that the ‘Green’ book (for age 2-6) is for him and the ‘Purple’ book (for age 5-8) is for mommy or else he will sure to snatch it from me.
What I like most about these books are the fact that they are very colorful, made of good quality glossy paper, complete with different skill sets and structured in a easy to read manner. Within each book book, different subjects are covered in every page so kids would not get bored quickly but rather more engaged and could relate better.
Darrius was very happy when he flipped through the ‘Green’ book which is Let’s Get Ready for Kindergarten. He was so attracted by the alphabets, colors, shapes, the left and right hands which he refers to ‘Where is Thumbkin?‘ from one of the VCD he has been watching. When he saw the numbers he kept asking me and now he is able to recite from one to twenty.

My boy is one curious and ‘long winded‘ fella and he will not stop until he gets his answers not once but a few times. Though it can be a little annoying at times but I should not whine as I know he yearns to learn…. which is a good thing! When he knows something, he loves to repeat many times and won’t stop until he is satisfied. So we have been going through the ‘alphabets, color and shapes pages’ many times as he is ultra obsessed with them!
Though Darrius is still too young for the Let’s Get Ready for First Grade but I will still guide once I feel he is ready for it even he has not reach that age group as I find the book is quite easy to follow. In this book, it covers a deeper level of skill sets such as vowels, consonants, prefixes, suffixes, contractions, compound words, punctuations, singular and plural and much much more.
We are still doing home schooling at the moment but we hope to prepare Darrius for play school in a few months time and with the help of these books, I am sure Darrius will be ahead of his peers in no time. These books are not only useful for Darrius but for us, the parents who are his main educators before he attend school.
If you have kids within these two age groups, you should consider getting them the Cedar Valley’s, Grow with the Cedar Valley Kids™ Let’s Get Ready Series. These books are specially designed for and by parents, kids and educators. Also, 10% from the sales of these books will be donated to charitable organizations. So, it don’t only helps your kids but other kids as well!
