What an experience!

This is a backdated post….

After the pains and worries, I decided to have a minor surgery to ‘cut’ away my tiny lump which has since subsided a lot after taking the antibiotics that gave me a week of nausea. I made an appointment with my surgeon and got rid of it last week.

On that morning, PiggyBeng (he took a day off) went to drop my appointment card and was hoping we can get all the admission done but there was some hiccups! He came back extremely angry as he was being pushed around by the hospital staff as they did not get any instructions from my surgeon. Apparently my surgeon did not scheduled my session with the OT (operation theater). It is also partly my fault for not calling him up the day before to reconfirm. Then I made some calls and managed to get things organized.

At about 8.45am we were off to the hospital. Luckily it was less than 2 mins drive away. Then we spent almost 30 minutes to get the admission done and was shown to my room. I used my Health Card so I got a very spacious single room in their new wing… come with a 32″ LCD too!

Then the nurses came to take my blood pressure and I was given an operation gown to change. After that I was given a shaver to shave that ‘area’. :P Then our wait started as there is still no space in the OT yet. After an hour wait, the nurse finally came with the wheelchair to wheel me over to OT which was a floor above. PiggyBeng and Darrius have to wait outside.

I was told by the nurse that there are a total 3 doors leading to the OT and all are not supposed to be opened simultaneously as this will allow the germs to get in. This was my first time in an OT in the hospital so it was really an eye opening experience but also one that is creepy. I was asked to wait in a room while waiting for my surgeon to arrive. I think I waited more than 30 mins there and was finally brought in.

As I was walking towards the 3rd door, I have to walk through a sticky mat… apparently it was meant to stick up all the dust under the slippers so the OT is clear of dust. Finally I reached my room and it looks even more creepy…. yeah, like those movie… a single bed in a huge room… The feeling was like I’m gonna be chopped up liddat… eewww! So horrifying!!!

The OT staff prepared me quickly before my surgeon’s arrival. In less than 5 mins my surgeon arrived and after a quick chat he administered the LA (local anesthesias) on the area where I was to be operated on. I think he gave me a total of 4 jabs. And on the 3rd jab, I was totally numb and don’t feel much anymore. The processes that followed were quick and in less than 10 mins it was done.

I was cleaned up and was brought back to the waiting room again. I was told that a nurse will come and wheel me back to my room. I waited and waited but no one came. I was super hungry and sleepy as I have to fast for the op. I think I waited for more than 30 mins before the nurse came.

They brought me my lunch earlier (fish porridge) and I wallop in no time. Then I told PiggyBeng to go get lunch for himself and that monkey of ours. He was so hyper jumping up and down the sofas and the bed. *smack forehead* Guess what? He said this is a ‘hotel’ wor! *pengsan* He was still monkeying about when I fed him his lunch…

Have to wait again for all the remainder processes to be completed. The nurse came to take my blood pressure again and I was given some pills to take. Then another nurse helped me to collect my medication from the pharmacy.

Finally I was able to go home. It was almost 3pm then… whole day just gone by liddat…

hey hope u r doing fine now…didn’t know about this. oh yea can’t blame Darrius for thinking that the hospital room is like a hotel room, most private hospitals do look like a hotel! All the exorbitant charges they charged us of course can make the hospital look like hotel la!
