‘Mommy threw all your toys away’

Though Darrius was sick the past few days, he never appeared to be sick as he still have the ability to throw all his toys on the floor. I scolded him a few times to get him to pick them all up but he just starred at me and act ‘boh chap’ (couldn’t care less attitude). Of course this raised my anger as I was already so tired with all the extra chores.

Every time I put back all his toys, he will take them out from the box again and they are all over the living room. When all that are done, he will bring all the books from the table and strew them on the floor… so the entire living room looked like a garbage dump. And that was not enough… he will them open up the piano and make some noise there and left it open despite the numerous times I told him not to touch the piano if he is not really playing it.

So, after a few times of picking up the toys and books… I really felt that I have enough! So, for one last time I told him to pick them up or else I’ll throw them all away. He refused to budge and so… I threw everything into the box and ‘threw’ the entire box away. Of course he started crying but I just ignored him.

Then after sometime, he came asking me for one of his stuffed toy, the rabbit and I casually told him that ‘mommy threw all your toys away’ so there is no more rabbit. Then I reminded him that if he still refused to keep his toys (I left a fire engine and another car toys on the table), they too will be in the dustbin.

Will not be bringing his toy box out in the next few days and see if he can live without them… I know I’m cruel but I really don’t know how to deal with him. Let him make do with the two toys for the time being so he will know if he do not keep his toys, there will be no more toys other than those 2 items.

u know, i am so tempted to keep some of the toys away since qq does not like to pick them up also. but hb said she wont be a child for long, let her play all she wants….so sometimes really got to force her to pick before she go to bed/school…..

I use this trick also, so far it working. Once I said i will throw her toys Anne will quickly go and pick up her toy and put at the right place. We just need time to “train” them!

seems cruel but yes gotta teach kids a lesson. i do that too, or worst, i show them by throwing toys into the big dustbin! toys laying all over the floor and i dont want my new maid to pick it up for them… next time my kids wont pick up anymore.. they gotta be independent..

i understand totally. i only clean up at the end of the day when we all go to sleep or after his bath time. we have more toys for him than he is able to play with.

  12. you are one strict mommy. But you got point here. hang in there.

BTW, we are all in the same boat.

Once I really do what I said, I threw away Jo2’s toy in front of him (of course those broken one). From that day onwards, he knows that my word counts, not say say only-lo.

Wen Wen the same, she sometimes will keep after play, sometimes just leave the living room like a rubbish dump… me also don’t know how to deal with her, really… I believe when Wen grow older, she will know what to do with it, but first we as parents must really show good example…

Kellys last blog post..Am I pushing too hard?
