Planning for the Golden Years
The time has changed so much that the once taboo subject in this part of the world is now a common discussion among folks in the golden years. Yes, we are talking about spending the last part of our lives in nursing homes.
As more such homes are sprucing up with better care and facilities, more old folks are considering spending their lives there rather than with their children. This is because the younger generation are stuck at work for longer hours and has limited time to take care of their older parents. Some who are having immobility problems might need extra care which family members may not be able to fulfill.
I have a friend whose mother fell ill with Alzheimer a couple of years ago and has incontinence problem. As most of her siblings have to work they could not afford to be at home caring for their mother 24 hours a day so sending her mother to the nursing home is the only solution they have so her mother can get the best care.
I guess this is beginning to be the trend. My dad has a few friends who are discussing about moving into some of the nursing homes too since their children are not able to spend much time with them.
