Vandalism = Caning
Last night while I was busy hand washing some of my laundry, I left Darrius alone out in the living room, roaming around while watching his nursery rhymes. I did not think much as he was quietly doing playing his ‘own’ stuff. canning
Then suddenly he came to me and told me ‘mommy, book dirty’. Did not suspect anything, I went to him and see what is he trying to tell me. He repeated ‘book, dirty’pointing to the book he was holding. So I took the book from him and have a closer look. To my horror, the whole book – every single page has pen marking! I don’t remember Darrius has access to my stationaries box so he must have taken the pen which I left on the table earlier (he knows how to climb onto the chair and go up to the table to click on the mouse and punching the keyboard).Big mistake for leaving the pen lying on the table!
Now the entire book looked so ugly! I was so angry with him that I took the same book and smack both his palms! However, he did not even cry but just stared at me with an innocent look. I asked him ‘who drew on the book?’but he just kept quiet. Then I went over the table and saw the pen… Too late, damage has been done. Aaarrggghhh!
I just can’t control my anger anymore so I went to take the cane and started to whip him on his butt. He did not even budge! Then I saw all his blocks and puzzle pieces strew all over the floor so I asked him to pick them up. He did not budge either! That really fueled my fire so I whipped him further. He started to cry and said ‘don’t want mommy tar-tar’(don’t want mommy to beat). Despite feeling the pain in my heart for canning him, I continued as I want him to know this is a punishment for something he has done wrong.
He started to run away but I told him that if he don’t pick up his toys I will smack his butt again. I also reminded him that if he ever ‘anyhow draw’ on his books again I will cane him too. Just hope he learned from this episode.

At least he doesn’t draw on the wall, like my kids! Hehehe…. You would faint if you see the “drawings” & writing they did!

i can totally understand ur frust. cane cane but then afterwards sayang back.
My boy always kena from me. Bo pien la cos sometimes he is too notti. Even though i wanted to practise the foreigners method of “never scold or hit your child”, it is sometimes too hard.
Last nite he just tore one of the pages of the baby signs book. I usually use hand only to smack his hand or thighs. Sometimes he no feel one. Mmg geram … hahhaa kids .. they make you headache but also make you more sayang them with their funny antics.
Poor Darrius and Mummy! Don’t canelah…he’s still too young to understand. Why not try the naughty corner that ZMama practises? Both Ryeli’s Mummy and I do it and so far it works well for us. Keep the cane for when he’s 3+ ok!

I guess I am lucky, I have not had the misfortune of having to smack anything on my son. Actually that is not true, I did smack his hand once and felt guilty for days because it just was not warranted. I learned at least for myself, that talking to my son about what he does wrong and explaining it has led him to not doing those things again. As long as it works, the spankings will never happen. I just don’t feel it is affective (at least not at 2.5 years old..
The pen situation brings back the memory when I walked into Eli’s room to find that he had drawn all over his own legs with a pen. It was hard not to laugh.

Ouch!….poor Darrius. Actually hor, the damage isn’t that badlah. Perhaps you are feeling the exhaustion from taking care of him alone while PB is away and this adds to the short fuse
Now that PB is back, hope you can recharge yourself. Take care, ya and hugs to Darrius.
Ahhhh.. ! we donch punish chloe if she draws on her own books.. but if she does it on someone else’s book.. like my magazines or PB’s books.. now that’s a different thing.

keep the book ah..just in case, no.2 pops by ah!!!!!!!!!!!!!! very very good lesson……they learn INSTANTLY!
I know I am a little hard on Darrius but this Lil’ monster don’t take soft approach. I’ve tried so many times until it really test my patience and finally I exploded!
Hopefully I can control my temper more effectively in the future…
