A night of mooncakes and lanterns
This year we will be bringing Darrius to experience his 1st Lantern Festival during the Mid Autumn celebration. The actual date is on 25th of September which coincide with the 15th day of the Eighth Month on the Lunar calendar. We brought Darrius to Tesco on Friday afternoon to get his first rubber lantern (yeah, break-proof) which he chose himself (a baby Pooh Bear). Actually, it was PiggyBeng’s idea when he saw those lanterns on display.
We did not bring Darrius to enjoy this festival last year as he still can’t walk and hold a lantern properly. Well, this year he can walk but he still don’t hold the lantern properly! He was amused by the light and the irritating music initially when he was choosing it but in no time he lost interest completely and started to bang the lantern left and right!
It was raining cats and dog the whole weekend but our spirits were not the least dampen!
PiggBeng found out that there will be a small celebration in the housing estate near our place so after the heavy downpour on Saturday evening, we went to look see if the event materialised.
Guess what??? We were quite surprise that quite a huge crowd has gathered at the temporary built tentage. When we arrived (only to realised we forgot to bring Darrius’s shoes!) it was almost 7.30pm and the MP was making his speech. We went in and was asked to register. So we paid the RM1 registration fees and was given a paper lantern, 2 pieces of cartoon biscuits (a traditional type of mooncake which Darrius gobbled down in no time!), a bottle of mineral water and a lucky draw card too! Too bad we were not as lucky as the number before and after us!
There was a games for the kids, short Karaoke session as well as line dance performances. And guess what was Darrius doing for the entire time when we were watching the 10 minutes line dance performances? He was playing eyes with the lady who registered us! That cheeky boy!
After the grand prize for the lucky draw was announced (not us) we started leaving the place. We were quite fortunate as the moment we drove off it started to rain again!
