21-Month Bedtime conversation
I am a super duper lousy mommy. I’ve not been doing Darrius’s milestone updates for 2 months! I think during this period, he has grown a lot especially his character. He is a confirmed chatterbox and one extremely kay-poh boy!
The past few weeks, we have been having lots of conversations as he will try his best to come out with words and linking them into sentences. I will try to talk to him whenever I am doing things together with him. Asking him a lot of questions and waiting for him to come out with the answers. It was fun!
The time that I enjoyed most is when I tuck him in at night. As there is no one else in the room besides Darrius and myself, I can have his full attention and not get distracted at all. I will take this opportunity to chat with him and see how he respondto my questions. He will normally repeats the same things as his grammar capabilities is still pretty limited when it comes to forming sentences but I am proud of him as he did tried his best.
Here are some of the conversations we had…
Scene 1
Me: Where did you go today?
Darrius: Mmmmm go kah-kuk, go Jek-ko
Me: Who did you go kah-kuk and Jek-ko with?
Darrius: Geng-geng, poh-poh bing Ar-ver to kah-kuk, Jek-ko
Me: What did you do there?
Darrius: go kai-kai walk-walk
Me: Any other things?
Darrius: eeemmmm…. buy mumm (buy food)
Me: Where else you want to go?
Darrius: Mmmm… eh-eh (Sunshine), ka-ern (Giant), people’s place (play ground)
Me: You want to go so many places?
Darrius: Go kah-kuk, Jek-ko, eh-eh, ka-ern, people’s place (he will repeat the whole list!)
Me: Go to play ground do what?
Darrius: sit juud (slide), swing
Scene 2
Me: Boy, come mommy sing song with you
Darrius: Ar-ver sing A-B-C! Ar want go Amah’s place watch A-B-C!
Me: You want to go back to Amah’s place? (he refered to our Penang house as his paternal grandmother’s house)
Darrius: watch di-ah (twinkle-twinkle little star), watch ik-wah (butterflies)
Me: You want to watch twinkle-twinkle little star ah?
Darrius: Mmmmm… go Amah’s place
All the conversations are almost similar as he can only say those few things in sentences form. Other times he will answer me in single or double words. However, he has improved tremendously as he can understand a lot of things I tried telling him. He is one curious little boy. Now he can even pick up and copy some Mandarin and Cantonese words when he heard my parents talking! Just like a little parrot!
