World Breastfeeding Week 2007

It’s the time of the year again and as a huge supporter and advocator for breastfeeding, I would want to celebrate and highlight this year WABA’s World Breastfeeding Week 2007The 1st hour Save ONE Million Babies. The event runs from 1st to 7th August 2007.

The message for this year event is:

Initiation of breastfeeding within the 1st hour of birth us the first and most vital step towards reducing infant and under-five mortality, by reducing the overwhelmingly high neonatal mortality rate. Save ONE million babies – beginning with ONE action, ONE hour support and ONE message.

I know many young urban working mothers are not fully aware of the benefits of breastfeeding and what impacts it has towards their children. Many of them are being brain-washed by some giant marketing companies and believed that formula milk are better but how wrong they are!

Sometimes the desire to have more freedom and convenience could results in poor health in our children. I found that many of these mothers still do not know the greatest culprits are these formula milk they kept feeding their babies! They are made of chemical compounds which has no antibodies contents like what mother’s milk has that keep our babies’ immune systems at it best. Breastfeed exclusively for the first 6 months of your babies’ life so they can have a healthier life.

Sometimes, the best can’t be bought with money but given out of love. Mother’s milk has all the required nutrients, vitamins and antibodies the baby’s required to grow up strong and healthy. I breastfed Darrius exclusively for more than 6 months and only started weaning him when he was almost 15-months and he was completely weaned when he was 18.5-month. Though he do fall sick (minor flu and fever) over these 20 months but he recovers really fast! So, dump that can of formula and start breastfeeding your baby today!

I loved and missed those times when I was breastfeeding Ethan. I don’t know about you but I feel that it was so convenient. Don’t have to bring bottles or formulas everywhere. The only thing being that you have to be there at all times. I don’t mind that too because it really bonds us.

I couldn’t feed him though right after he was born because he’s a prem and he didn’t have that sucking reflex yet.

I love bfg to bits! It’s a pity I have to wean Darrius as we wanted to try for our #2 so it’s a case of ‘force’ rather than natural and I was quite sad about the whole thing but I was glad I did it beyond the 6 months!

Hi found you on themomblogs. I have a 4 1/2 month old daughter. I couldn’t breastfeed even though I knew it was good. Reasons, not good at it, too tired, she was (still is) hungry and couldn’t tahan, must eat now kind of thing. Furthermore, my mother in law wasn’t supportive of it and kept asking me whether I am giving it to my baby and ask me to stop.

Hi Shireen! Thanks for dropping by my blog!
Yeah I could understand your predicament as many moms faced the same problems like you but there are many who successfully bf their babies even though they were in many other difficult situation. I guess all will be bogged down to our determination! If you’ve failed this time, try again for your next babies… we learn along the way and I hope you will gain more info before your next baby!

Hear Hear! I am still breastfeeding although I thought I would stop sooner. I can’t begin to applaud the goodness of breastfeeding.

Way to go! I’m so envious of you…. when you planning for #2??

  4. I wish I was still breastfeeding. wakakakaka

Sorry. I got to be cheeky some time right? :P

hahaaha! Thanks for the support buddy!

BF is great to mum & baby but there are other factors that force us to stop. At least I feel so. Being a FTWM with no access to BF room to pump milk after back to work plus baby needs to send over for my mum to take care in hometown (as MIL also not healthy that time & refuse baby to send to babysitter), unsufficient information (coz never know how to search for the info) are some factors that cause me gave up. How I wish I can BF exclusively longer.

  6. thumbs up for breastfeeding moms !!!! yea, way to go !! I am still bf Ashley too, at 20 months. No choice lar,she is still rejecting formula.
