eerrr…. Aquarium?

Another back-dated post.

You know, I’ve been living in this little island for close to 3 years but I’ve never heard about any aquarium here besides those that sell fishes or watever water related pets… until 2 weeks ago.

It was on PiggBeng’s birthday that we actually stepped into one after our sumptious lunch. We would have not gone there if we were being denied entry at Queensbay Mall. The Akuarim is actually near the junction of Batu Maung, Bayan Lepas Industrial area and the road leading to Teluk Kumbar.

When we arrived around 1pm+, there was visibly only 1 car parked at the huge parking lot outside. Initially we thought it was closed but since we were already there so I went down to check out the ticket counter to find out on their operating hours. Surprised, the ticket man was there! It cost RM5 per entry each for adults. I think for kids it is RM3 each.

So, without expecting much since it is a government fishery research department we went in with an open heart…. :P And the truth is…. we were surprised!

The ‘big screen’ aquarium mini theater before the exit

There were lots of different species of fishes featured there although it was not as huge as the Under Water World in Singapore but good enough. Actually, they do not allow photo taking but we (PiggyBeng lar not me) were quite amazed when we came to the end of our tour, we were in this mini theater with a huge glass tank filled with fishes…

The gigantic Grouper

Then we exit after spending some good minutes in the mini theater. Outside, there are a few more attractions. One of it is the sea turtles. There were a few tanks, one filled with adult turtles and 3 with smaller baby turtles. There’s also a mini pond filled with Japanese carps.

Overall, it was a good experience as we had expected the worst (some pathetic local fishes swimming in tiny pools) and thought the entrance fees were well worth it. After all, it takes up cost to run the place…

So, for those of you who will be visiting Penang soon, do include this Akuarium as part of your itinerary especially if you have kids as they will definitely like what they going to see…

The entrance fees is def. worth it. Jo1 enjoyed the final part of the aquarium where we juz like sitting in a mini theater waching fishes swimming around. My biggest regret, I didn’t bring my camera along coz I thought there’s nothing much to see, and I was wrong!!!

Yeah boy! I was having the same expectation too! Well, I was glad it turns out better than we thought it would be. At least we enjoyed the place.

Not Aquaria lar… some research institute but they make it into aquria style so can collect some $$$ to fund the place’s daily expenditure.
