An Eventful Weekend

It was an extremely long weekend for us last week. Firstly, my parents came up from KL for a visit since Thursday and secondly, Saturday was a public holiday here, hence PiggyBeng had a replacement off day today. So, from Thursday right up to today, we did heaps! My parents left for home after breakfast on Monday and I’m going to list down all the stuff we did over the weekend.

On Wednesday evening, PiggyBeng has been busy whipping up his famous Hokkien Mee soup base as he wanted my parents to taste it. He was up till 11pm to perfect the soup! He normally will hit the bed latest by 10pm… can you see how important is the Hokkien Mee to him?

My parents arrived on Thursday afternoon. As I still have lots of stuff which I bought for the week, I have to clear them, so I prepared a simple dinner for that evening. We later proceed to Northam Beach Cafe for some drinks and dessert. We extremely like the umbra suan boi drink served there. Their ice-kacang also not bad at all. The ambience… perfect! It was breezy and not that crowded too.

Next day, we had a quick breakfast at home before we went for a short walk at Tesco Extra at Sungai Dua while waiting for PiggyBeng to get off from work. When we arrived home, we had the famous PiggyBeng Hokkie Mee for lunch… :P Guess what we had after lunch????

Durian lovers…. please don’t hate me after this!

My FIL called and told us he had his friend reserved some really good durian for us and we have to go pick them up at Balik Pulau (the place where the the King of fruit resides). So, went and collect the durians up around 2pm. PiggyBeng thought, since we are already there, he decided to bring us up to the farms! To the farms we went! And we had a big durian feast up there! :P PiggyBeng’s fav is the Hor Lor (pic and description below).

The shop owner was really nice so he introduced us to various types of durians that he was selling on that day. he even gave us a free one after we had ours. According to PiggyBeng, the durians up there are way cheaper than when they were being brought down by agents. And the best thing is, most are very fresh… just dropped from the trees! *slurps* We took the round island route so we exit at Teluk Bahang and drove through the city. Dropped by Canon’s sales office to send our camera for a little check up*. Then we went dinner with FIL at his favourite restaurant, Yong Pin which is located near Komtar. Had wanted to go for a walk at the Esplanade but that Lil’ fella was dropping bombs so we gotta rush home!

On Saturday, it was pretty cloudy and perfect weather as it was not hot at all. We drove to Jalan Seratus Tahun for the famous Curry Mee before proceed to Queensbay Mall. Spent around 2 hours there before we went to the hawker at Free School Road for our lunch…. found out they have very yummylicious BBQ pork! That night, we attended our neighbour’s son’s wedding dinner and we did not bring Darrius along. My parents helped babysit Darrius and brought him to meet my uncles and aunties whom happened to come to Penang for meeting at Tnajung Bungah.

It rained heavily on Sunday morning. PiggyBeng went for a jog when it poured cats and dogs. He came back all soaking wet! After washing up and get Darrius ready, we went to have dim-sum breakfast at Macalister Road. Red Tea House is a branch of the famous dim sum restaurant in Far Lim. We like the city’s branch as the hawker centre is huge and airy and they have those lazy rattan chairs which are really comfy! After breakfast, we went to Gurney Plaza and let the Lil’ fella have some fun at the mini kiddyland. We left for lunch to Batu Maung Resturant after that… had the Fried Nestum Crayfish…. awesome! Went home for a short rest (let the Lil’ fella has his nap) before we head down to the beach…. yeah beach bums again! The weather was a little chilly so we stayed for about 45mins only and drove to New Lane to have dinner. After all the CKT, curry mee, chee-cheong-fun, popiah and apoms we drove to Tesco! (That night I was hit by food poisoning coz I ate the cockles in my curry mee…. and I puke all the curry out! Yucks!)

Finally, it Monday came… all of us were a little puncture by now after all the pigging away and continuous activities. Still we drove to town for breakfast. This time we went to Pulau Tikus… wah… found this coffee shop (forgotten the name), the wan-tan-mee damn yummylicious! Then bought this banana pancake…. with eggs and raisins… something unusual really… taste wise, so-so only but Darrius loves it! After breakfast, we went home and my parents packed their stuff and head back to KL… Darrius did cried for a while but he was easily distracted after we brought him out for a short drive.

*You must be wondering why there are no photos right? Well, our camera was so exshuated that it has fallen sick! With very heavy heart, we have to sent the poor over-worked fella to the hospital for a little check-up… only expected to be home in 2-3 weeks time…. But-but… luckily I borrowed my brother’s camera but-but again… he forgot to pass me the cable to download the pics! Damn anti-climax! Bleah~

Wahhh your schedule so hectic ar. I just came back from Penang. Shud have came across your blog b4 that so that I can ask for your help. Hehehe

Pity my hubby didnt manage to eat durians in Penang (even after i told him that Penang got many types of delicious durians) cos he fell sick for 2 days b4 we’re supposse to leave for home. I guess too much CKT and not enough water.

Yeah, according to my hubby, Penang has their own ‘brands’ which other places do not have. So it’s an experience for all durian lovers… hehehe
