*Slurping* Fish Head Curry

Yesterday, we have wanted to go to Queenbay Mall for lunch but was being kicked away by the awful congestion leading to the mall. Cars were barred from entering the road that leads to the mall’s car park. Initially we were not aware of what was the function that is taking place at the mall and only learned much later that it was the TV3’s Jom Heboh Carnival.

Since we were being sent away, we have no hoice but to drive all the way to Batu Maung. It was around 11.30am and we were not sure where should we have our lunch. Then PiggyBeng suggested that we should try the fish head curry located at the Kantin Kompleks Perikanan LKIM at Batu Maung. The place, Restoran Pan Mutiara serves the famous fish head curry along with a few other dishes.

It has been quite sometimes since we last went up to Batu Maung so when we did not see the usual signboard of the restaurant, we thought the place has closed down. However, we still drove in and check and was lucky to find out the restauarant is still there! So, we quickly parked our car and went in. We later found out from the staff that their signboard was being blown away during the freak storm a few weeks back.

The restaurant is designed in a mixture of Malay and Balinese style with really nice wooden furnitures which were being placed in 3 different sections. Then the staff lead us to the section at the back which has an aquarium and a small man made fountain cum pond. Very nice ambience indeed. The even have a small fountain near the entrance that emit smoke… which gives a tranquil feeling.

Then we ordered these….

Air Asam Limau, one of their signature drink

The famous Fish Head Curry in a huge ceramic plate

Kerabu Manga, tangy and perfect to tone down the spiciness of the curry

The extremely fiery, Sotong Masak Pedas

We did not expect the food to turn out good but we were surprised that they did! I love the Kerabu Manga which has a very nice taste, not too sour and not too salty…

Both of us had 2 bowls of rice each, so it showed that the dishes were really tasty!

As all the dishes were spicy, we ordered the Koay Teow Ratna for Darrius and that turned out quite tasty too.

The overall rating is 7 out of 10 and prices are quite reasonable too except for the rice which were priced @ RM1 per bowl. They are open 7 days a week. So, beside going to this other restaurant in this area, we now have another alternative place to dine.

    wah……that sotong looks yummy

Actually the sotong so so niah… the chili sauce is too spicy and made the dish a little bland… guess it kills the tastebuds..

Wow, the food really make me drool….. esp the sotong.

I think their other sotong dish (sotong in flour – deep fried) taste better… we will order that on our next visit.
