The title says it all….
Yeap, evil us… we went for our last round of durian feast before the season ends. This is our 3rd time visiting Balik Pulau for three consecutive weeks! I think the amount of cholestrol we piled up can send our hearts rocking! Going for durians was not in our initial plan for the day. We have wanted to go for a Japanese buffet (the meal that PiggyBeng promised me to celebrate our Registration Anniversary) but the restaurant was fully booked so we have no choice but to go for an alternative.
When we arrived, there were quite a alot of durians and PiggyBeng could not decides what he wanted to try this time, so the durian stall owner told him to take the buffet offer instead. He charged RM10/pax and we can eat until we drop!
Itelyu, I almost puke from the excessive of durians! We have to ta-pau (pack) the last piece as there’s no way we can swallow another bite!
The brand/species we tried this time includes Amy Yip, Bak-Eu, Chey-kak and Li-pan. The Amy Yip (fames Hong Kong 3rd category or soft porn atress in the early 90′) species is another one of the best I’ve tasted so far as the flesh thick, sticky and fragrant with slight sweet taste. For Bak-Eu, has a slight acidic aroma and the flesh is whitish while the taste is bittersweet. I don’t quite like it but PiggyBeng said it’s different from the rest. Chey-kak (green husk) is quite similar to ANg heh/Red Prawn with thick flesh and very fragrant. For Li-pan, it’s quite similar to Bak Yiu but yellowish in color. This is also just so-so only. (our camera still in the hospital so did not get to capture any photos!)

Bak-Eu - small whitish flesh with bittersweet taste

Ang Heh or Red Prawn is one of the Top Durian species

D600 - Very thick flesh but with a harden flesh at the seed area
So far we have tried quite a lot of species. We took a number of D600 last week (there are still one box in the freezer) and Teng-ki (long stem) which are so-so only. The previous week, we took some Chey-kak, Ang-Heh, Amy Yip, Taiwan Lady and one Kim-Hu (goldfish).
Though I am not a durian die-hard fan like PiggyBeng, but the experience has been extremely memorable. This is the first time we have gone to this extend. I’ve only started taking durian last year as I have been abstaining from it for the last 15 years!
Before we leave, we bought a piece of cempedak…. which is in season now! So, you will see some blogging on this soon! Stay tuned!
