A small celebration

We went to celebrate my parents’ 35th Wedding Anniversary last Sunday night. Initially we have thought of having Western food but changed our mind last minute as PiggyBeng said we should have Chinese food instead for there are more varieties. He said that it will not be a celebration if there’s isn’t any sharkfins and suckling pig on the table!

So, being a last minute thing, we did not make any prior reservation at any restaurant. On that day itself we started to make some inquiries but most of the restaurants are full with wedding dinners (it’s like a tradition that Chinese likes to get hitched in the month of June). Then a heavy downpour in the late afternoon turned our plans up-side-down as we want to avoid going to the city coz we are afraid of flash flood which might caused traffic jams. Due to that, we have to scout around for restaurant near by.

At the end we managed to locate one restaurant but still have to share with a wedding dinner crowd. It was still raining cows and buffalos when we left our house around 6.30pm. We reached Imperial Palace Restaurant at Puchong Jaya slightly after 7pm and was glad the rain started to turn to just light drizzle.

This restaurant do not have any package for 6 pax so they recommended we take their current set dinner promotional package instead. The items are the common dishes we will order for normal meals so we let my dad make the pick. We can pick a few items from the list and we get a complimentary soup, rice and dessert. Then we added an additional suckling pig and sharkfin soup to complete the meal. The service was quite fast and overall the food was quite good.

(Clockwise: Suckling pig, Roast duck, Tofu in egg sauce, Lo-Hon Jai and Buddha’s bowl. Forgotten to snap the sharkfin soup and Curry Fish Head)

Again, it won’t be a celebration if there’s no cake right? Actually, the day before I tried baking a cheese cake for the occassion. When the cake was in the oven, it rises so beautifully but it sank deeper than the Titanic when it cooled off! Not sure what went wrong but the end result was…. dissasturous! :(

Luckily my brother bought another cake when we were in Kajang the day before though he knew I’ll be baking one. It’s for just in case and I was glad we have the other cake or else it will be such a waste of not having one for the big day!
