Crabbing in Seremban
This post is soooooo delayed! Actually has wanted to do it earlier but all the pics were only downloaded by PiggyBeng when he returned to Penang. Then I have to keep reminding him to email over and he took a few days to do it. When he finally emailed to me before he left for his trip, then only did I realise he has left some out! *slapped forehead*
We have been following TV8’s food hunting programme, Ho Chiak and the week before we left for KL, the show recommended a crabbing heaven in Seremban. Since we are in KL which is not too far from Seremban, we decided to check the place out before PiggyBeng return to Penang. Just two days before, some KL mommies treated us to a sumptious meal with loads of crabs too!
It was on Monday, 30 April, a day before Labour Day. We decided to go on Monday because we thought the traffic will be light but we were so so wrong! The moment we exit the North South Highway into Seremban town, we were practically caught in the worst jam ever! We tried to escape but was too late so just have to follow all the cars. Besides the jam, we also don’t know exactly where the restaurant is located so we went round and round for almost 2 hours!
Then we decided to get out of the town and went to Jusco at Seremban 2 to avoid getting trapped again. My dad thought it was just some lunch crowd that caused the jam so we shopped around Jusco till about 1.30pm. We were hoping that the jam will ease a little since it has passed lunch hours but we were wrong again! So, back to the crawl again lor!
After we managed to get to some landmarks, my dad called a colleague to ask for directions but the lady wasn’t too sure! Adoi! So we have to go round and round again! Then we went into a dead end and since we saw a few passerby, we decided to get some help. Thanks goodness the lady knew the location we were searching for!
The place, Seremban Seafood Village is located at Jalan Tuanku Munawir. There were a few others seafood restaurants along the same streach of road but since this is the one which was recommend we just stick to it. Luckily they do not close during the off-peak hours between lunch and dinner so we still can have our crabs!

Baked Crabs in Special Sauce
Beside the crabs, we ordered fried rice, Wat-tan-hor (fried horfun with starchy egg sauce) and a vege dish. The Wat-tan-hor was quite good but the fried rice was a huge disappointment. The crabs, nothing to shout about lor…. Firstly, they are soooo small and secondly, all the sauce sticking on the shell and not on the flesh. However, PiggyBeng said their chili sauce was quite nice… too bad i did not really dig into it as I was too busy digging the crab meat out!
After we were done, we went to the Seremban Siew Pau Empayar to buy some siew paus (baked charsiew pau). This place is actually an abandoned market which was newly built. Probably the location was a little off (along the higway) hence there’s no other tenants. Seremban Siew Pau Empayar actually rent half of the ground floor to operate a seafood restaurant beside those siew paus and other local delights they manufactured.
It was a day spent mostly in the car! And guess what actually caused the massive traffic jam?????

crabs looks very delicious with the gravy all on the outside. if they cut it open and cook it so the sauce get to the meat … that will taste even better.
Actually there’s not much gravy… all sticking on the shell.

That photo of the crab looks real yummy! They look real big in there. My husband is drooling…he’s a fan of seafood but they’re really expensive here.
Looks can be soooo deceiving! The crabs is soooo small.
I tot seafood is cheap in Adelaide???? I ate a lot when
I was in Sydney so not so sure about Adelaide.
i ordered a chilli mudcrab 2 years ago, cost AU$50 loooooohhhh – only one crab. Never again. Must learn to cook it myself, haha! May i know how much that crab dish cost?
We spent about RM90 for the whole meal. I think the crabs cost about RM40/kg and we ordered 1.5kg = RM60.
I went to the Sydney Fish Market b4 wor… the stuff there quite ok and price also not that expensive leh…
There are some nicer ones in Seremban. I live in Seremban but I don’t go crazy over the crabs here but in Subang SS15 Asia Cafe. What a irony…
