An attempt to wean Darrius – completely
Most of you knew that we have been trying to work on #2 a couple of months back. Though I thought I was ’successful’ a month ago but it turned out to be false alarm as Aunty Flow visited me soon after… 
Well, it was too late now as PiggyBeng only wanted a year end baby so we have stopped trying until the ‘window’ period comes on again.
One of the main reason why we are unsuccessful – I still breastfeed Darrius (very frequently) during those times when we were trying. The chances to conceive while still breastfeeding is rather slim for some mothers (differ from one woman to another) as the increase in the hormone that produces milk is actually a form of contraceptive or birth control. I was not prepared earlier thus the failure to conceive. So, after much discussions with PiggyBeng, I’ve decided to wean Darrius completely before trying again but deep down inside I felt the deliberation as I really wish to breastfeed Darrius till he is two. However, I need to prepare my body in order to conceive again… There goes my chance to have a go at tandem nursing…..
Darrius will be 18-month old in about 3 weeks time and I have made a target to wean him completely from my breast by the time he hits 18-month. As of now, I only let him have his comfort suckling once in 24-hours, which is early in the morning around 6 to 7am. I am feeding him supper (milk with cereal or milk with bread) before tucking him in every night so he would not feel hungry. I’ve wanted him to sleep through the night but somehow still unsuccessful as he still wakes up many times asking for milk. When he cry for milk in the middle of the night now I will give him plain water instead and was surprised to find out he was actually thirsty rather than hungry after a few nights as he will first screamed and cry loudly when I refused to let him suckle but after a while he will ask for water…
Since we are staying at my parents’ place now, I hope it will be easier as my mom will tuck Darrius in some of the nights and this will help him ease the thought of suckling on my breast to sleep. It pains me to see him pleading every night but there’s no other way… *sigh*

How I wish I can have another baby now…. hubby was complaining that the break is a little long now as Darrius will be 3 by the time we expect #2.

Mine came back when I’m on my 5th month post partum… I was quite sad lar to have Af coming back so soon!

Aiyah, PB said due to our stewpit edu system, bb born in the beginning of the year RUGI big time coz we start school in the beginning of the year lor! So year end bb UNTUNG as he/she can graduate at a younger age. Unlike the Europeans and Americans where school term starts in Sept.
this is also one of the reasons i weaned Ern of from my breast when she was 6-months old. It’s getting tougher to wean when they grow older.
After 6+ months, we started to introduce formula and EBM. By 9 month old, “reservoir ” dried up.
I knew that too but it’s a waste not to give what I have abundance and succumb to those chemical stuff lor. Bfg is soooo convenient and since I stay home all the time I just continue. I also very lazy to express so I normally bf direct.
My aunt flo visited me like normal 6 weeks after delivery both times even though I breastfeed exclusively. Bleargh. Really uncomfortable to deal with leaking breastmilk as well as period at the same time!
Wow! So early your AF visited you???? I really envy those whose AF came after more than a year!

is okay for you to wean Darrius. But for me… we dont want have no.2 yet.. so best for me is BF la.. Sean..and let him decide when to stop.

Wei…no pressure to wean Darrius offlah. It seems that the contraceptive part only works if you breastfeed at least 3x a day. Since Darrius only O.T.B every 24 hours, doesn’t look like a problem leh.
Yikes – my Lucas is born at the beginning of the year! That means I should send him to US schools to untung izzit?
I don’t want to take chances anymore… so must force wean lioa lor. I know it’s a pity but no choice lar or else won’t get to see #2.
About the year end and beginning of the year baby… I don’t really bother as I’m a Feb baby myself! Only my PB a little weird.
dont feel too bad. yr way is correct and if you are really trying for a 2nd bb, weaning darrius would be a good take. i weaned off oscar’s night feed when oscar was 2 months old… so cruel heh me…

hahahaha ur piggybeng is like me lor…i oso wanted year end for my kids, successful for kieran but kylie was accident so mid year…blueekkk…hahaha.. don’t get too stressed, i think most of the times the stress of wanting the bb can actually affect chances of conceiving…i’ve seen this in so many couples, the moment they relax and say aiya forget it la…zheng zheng zheng…kena wor! so dont worry b happieeeeeeee

i was wondering how to wean off breast at night time. Good that u have your mom to help.
If i tuck Bryan to bed, he will ask for nen-nen non stop even after i had fed him supper.

My mom also not helping every night as she wanted to watch TV. But I managed to lull Darrius to sleep on my own without him asking for the breast. The only time was in the middle of the night where he will be quite hysterical if I refused to let him suckle. Have to use many tricks to get him back to sleep.
Don’t ever regret not weaning earlier. The difficulty of weaning him now is just a minor obstacle to overcome. Think of what a great start you have given Darrius for his life.
I must learn from you how to slowly wean baby until one feed a day only. *salutes*
Yeah, have to wean slowly but if you don’t intend to work on #2, then you can let Ethan to self wean.
All the best yea. I bought a breast look alike bottle recently, not sure if it’s good or not, I planned to let the confinement lady use it to feed my no. 2 so that he won’t get nipple confusion.
