Aiyoh! What a day!!!
Itellyu… sometimes, we just have those oddest luck!
Today my PiggyBeng left at 8.30am for a 2D1N biz trip to Singapore. Coincidentally, my MIL also left for her Taiwan trip this morning! So, guess what? I was left alone with Darrius lah!
Initially, thought that it’s just another day with only the two of us in the house. No big deal. This is our very first time being all alone in this house. Normally PiggyBeng will not plan for any trips if my MIL is going away. However, there’s a little communication problem and it was too late to make changes.
The drama starts right after my MIL left for the airport at around 11.15am. Darrius was not his usual self. Suddenly he was very manja after MIL’s departure. Not suspecting anything peculiar (though he has pooed earlier but after I bathed him he pooed again in his diaper and was quite loose too), I asked him to play his toys and ride his tricycle. After a while, he kept coming to me and like a cat, purr at my thighs and calling out ‘maa-mii, maa-mii, maa-mii’ in a very manja tone. So, I rub his head like what I normally do and ‘S***!’ his forehead was unusually warmer than normal! A little panic, I quickly went to fetch him some water and made him gulp down as much as he can.
He started to look a little tired after about 15 minutes and without thinking further, I gave him some paracetamol with Ribenna and bring him up to have his nap. He don’t normally nap that early but since he is having fever, it’s best to make him rest more. He played for a while and finally doze off after 20 minutes.
He napped for almost 2 hours but his temperature is still there. So I grabbed the thermometer and double check again and true enough it’s 37.9C! Lagi panic now. Anyway, I brought him down and gave him some milk which he only drank half the bottle. An hour later, he was still a little tired looking so I brought him up again but he did not sleep but continued playing with his toys and half way through he puke! On my bed! Arrgghhh! Just changed the sheet 2 days ago…. *sigh*
So quickly bring him down and get ready to bring him to our GP down the road. And of all days, it was raining! Most of you know I still have no courage to drive yet, so I walked there with Darrius on the stroller! It was drizzling slightly so I pushed real fast and less than 10 minutes we reached the GP. Guess what the doc said?
Doc: What’s wrong?
Me: He’s having fever, a little diarrhea and threw up a little.
Doc: (took out his thermometer and checked Darrius’s temperature) It’s 38.1C! Must admit to hospital! His tummy is not looking good either. Lots of wind.
Me: Huh???????? Admit now??? (I was extremely shocked)
Doc: Yeah. Better to admit so can be monitored.
Me: Can’t I monitor him today and see if his fever will go down later? Can’t be that serious right?
Doc: Ok. I give him some medicine and see how is his condition later.
Aiyoh! My heart almost popped out! Already so gabbrah (haywired) lioa some more tell me to admit Darrius to the hospital… How worst can things really be??? So quickly pushed Darrius home before the rain really falling like cows and sheeps… Called PiggyBeng and he told me to prepare the stuff if really must admit Darrius later. Then he called my FIL and asked him to drop by later.
Tried to feed Darrius more milk (did not give him porridge as it’s not suitable when he’s having fever)and his medicine too but he puked them all out! Arrgghh! Worried that he might be hungry, I mixed some Glocouse for him and lucky thing he finished them all… Then I cooked oats with honey for him and he gobbled that down too… *pheww*
By 7pm his fever finally subsided as he was perspiring heavily… which was a good sign. Skyped with PiggyBeng and later FIL came by. Skyped with my parents too and by 10pm, Darrius finally sound asleep in lala-land… Hope his temperature will not return… *keeping fingers crossed*
It seems like all the odds chooses to happen on a day I dreaded it to happen most!

yeah… was really tired but just have to stay awake to make sure he’s ok
I felt so worried when I came upon the part where the GP suggested Darrius to be admitted into hospital. But then again, I thought since you had the time to blog this, it should have a good ending, and sure enough, Darrius did well in the end! Hope he gets better soon and be mischievious again. Take good care of yourself too, because he needs you more now than other times..
He woke up around 6.30am and demanded to have water. lucky thing I brought his bottle up last night coz he seldom ask for water so I don’t really bring any to the room. He atually gulpped down the entire bottle! He’s still quite warm but hopefully with the water the temperature will go away… now he’s in lala-land again.
After this incident, you better practice on your driving. How’s he doing now?
Yeah… I was blaming myself yesterday for not picking up my driving… Going to make it a priority when I’m back in KL and do a refresher course or something.
He seemed ok now but still keeping my fingers crossed. Just hope nothing shocking happenning later…
What poor timing! Hope Darius fever has gone and he will be his regular self tomorrow.
Yah boi! Of all days he chooses the day when daddy is away!
I hope Darius is feeling better now. Speedy recovery ya..!!
Thanks MB. I hope he’ll be back to his active self too.
dun worry, 38.1 celcius no need admit to hospital one, my son got 38.8 celcius before, but doc didnt ask to admit to hospital. I hope Darius can get well soon…dun worry be happy,ok..
I read your post also I kan cheong for you. But yr GP was even more extreme. 38.1C is not too serious.
I think I can imagine the drama – a panicked mummy pushing a stroller at lightning speed to the GP down the road.
Take care lil Darrius.. Dont make mummy worry ya..
Hope Darrius boy will recover soon.
Hope Darrius is back to his cheerful self now. It’s always Murphy’s Law that things always happen when we have no one around.

agree with lovelymummy. here the peds don’t even want to see you unless the baby’s fever is up around 39C. i guess the gp was a little over the wall. like vien said, you better brush up your driving asap. i am glad darius is feeling better now, especially when PB is not around, i know how tough it is for you.
Hope darrius is getting better. Bryan just completed a 5 day stay at the hospital for suspected Cosackie. So pls be careful.

Ya ya, agree with the rest, why they like to fall sick when either parents are away? But 38.1 already need to admit ah?
Hope Darrius is well by now. And puleeeez pick up your driving
i know always like tat when daddy goes away…leaving mommy “panic station”…glad he’s all ok now.
remember when my girls have fever, they also cannot put food down…my mom say heaty so body will throw up to get rid of the heat…so throwing up is a real good sign…but solly la for your sheets! as long as he is well, it’s ok la! right..
Wah, you almost kena conned by the doctor. Usually a doctor/Pead won’t admit a child if he is sick on the first day until the sickness persist for more than 3 or 4 days or unless the child is lifeless.
Sweetie, please learn to be more independant and not depend on ppl around you too much. Baby makes a big changes in our life. Go brush up on your driving skill, ok? xoxo
Same here with my Di lar…his body was warmer than usual. Din puke lar but pangsai few times. Gave him some paracetamol.
That doc really scare people lar, if for me i won’t admit so soon too…monitor a while mar
hi, first time dropping by. the doctor super kancheong, so made you double kancheong too. aparah… 38.1 consider okay to monitor at home. i like putting a wet towel on the forehead. saja lar, but my aidan will always flick it away. hope your little bub is much better now.
I just changed our bedsheets and 30 minutes later comes the vomit. Then on his own bed one day later. Our situations are pretty similar.
Oh, have you ever tried using the thing that sticks on the baby’s forehead? I forgot the name but I bought 2 packets (should’ve bought more) from KL back to Adelaide because they don’t have them here. They’re quite good, if the baby don’t take it out when you put it on. Use it after they fall asleep. It’s good to keep a packet at home for just in case.

[...] So far everything looks ok and Darrius was fine throughout. He has been quite a good boy when I tried to tuck him in the past two nights. Even tonight he did not make any fuss and slept after I fed him his milk. He has been sleeping through till the next day too without waking up for milk now for the past few weeks… which is really a blessing! I have been keeping my fingers crossed that nothing drama happens when PiggBeng is not around after the previous case. [...]
