Another night of fright…
Thanks all for your concerns. Darrius is finally well now after another rollercoaster night…
On Wednesday morning, Darrius was spotted with slight fever again after which it subsided during mid morning. I actually packed up my stuff and prepared to bring him to the paed opposite my house but since his fever subsided, I stayed put instead. He was super cranky the whole day and extremely clingy and I can’t get anything done as he will cry the moment I’m out of his sight!
PiggyBeng arrived home around 9pm and I finally get to eat my dinner. FIL brought some food for me and PiggyBeng also brought me some snacks. I was dead tired and brought Darrius up to sleep around 10pm and PiggyBeng continued with his work.
Suddenly around 2am, Darrius was crying very loudly and woke all of us up. I quickly put my palm on his forehead and it was burning hot! I did not get take his temperature as he was screaming the moment I tried putting the thermometer under his armpit. We quickly go down and off to our GP again. His temperature at the GP’s clinic was 38.4C! So the MO (medical officer) quickly wrote us a referral letter so we can admit Darrius immediately.
We drove to Lam Wah Ee Hospital which was the nearest to our house, so if Darrius really has to be admitted it will be easier for us to travel since it’s only 3 minutes drive away. We have wanted to go to Adventis but it’s too far. We have to go to the A & E to register. The nurse on duty took Darrius’s temperature again and it went down to 38.1C. The MO on duty told us, Darrius’s fever is not at the high point yet so we can choose not to admit him… which was a relief to us. The MO said Darrius could have some infection in his nose which caused the fever. We were then given antibiotic and some suppository to bring down Darrius’s fever.
Darrius’s fever did not go off when he woke up around 10am and he puke all his breakfast out! So quickly call PiggyBeng and he came back around noon to bring Darrius to the paed at Lam Wah Ee. After waiting for more than an 45 minutes, we finally got in to the paed’s office. Paed said there’s nothing to worry about as there’s isn’t any spots on Darrius (which could be dengue) and Darrius’s fever has went down to 36.8C but I insisted to have Darrius’s urine and blood tested (advised by Vien). Paed said we can admit Darrius to do the test but we asked him to do it immediately since we are staying nearby. He prescribed some more medicine to help brings down Darrius’s fever.
The nurse stick a urine bag around Darrius penis so we can collect his urine. Then we brought him to the lap to get his blood out. Darrius was screaming like mad when the lap assistant tried to draw his blood from his hand…. quite a trumatic experience for him… and for us too… poor boy. After ding-dong for more than 3 hours we are finally home. Let Darrius has his nap and his appetite was slightly better… I cooked some soup with noodles for him. I avoid giving him any milk for the day.
Darrius was fine the next day with his fever totally gone. Then called up the paed’s office for the test results. Thank God, everything were fine with only a slight infection detected in his blood. Paed said there’s nothing to worry about. Phew~
We were supposed to drive down to KL on Friday afternoon but all of us were so drained with the whole episode that we decided to drive down on Saturday morning instead.
It was really a scary experience for us… especially for me as I really felt so helpless… what a lousy mommy I am, can dive but can’t drive! From this episode, I vowed that I must get back my confidence in driving no matter what! So, dear road users in Penang and KL, if you spot a snail speed car in front of you, please be kind and don’t honk cause it could be me!!!
