Burger Oh Burger!

I have wanted to post about this long time ago when I returned from LA but with so many back-dated posts (there are still quite a few of back-log) and the lousy connection as I can’t get into Flickr, the post has waited till now.

This post is nothing but BURGERS! Yes! Yes! The all American food… Burgers and Colas! I have planned to savour as many fastfood joints’ burgers as my stomach can take during our LA trip. I don’t normally eat burger here (Malaysia) except Burger King’s Whopper, as I find the rest of the burgers sold here are basically… unedible! :P Some of the meat are so dry they tasted like tree bark!

During the trip, I managed to try Jack In the Box, In-N-Out, Burger King, Carl’s Jr. and McDonalds. The best among the lot is In-N-Out. Their burgers are sooooo juicy with the melting cheddar cheese, juicy tomato slice and generous loads of lettuce. Instead of the normal mayo spread, they have Thousand Island so it was double yum! Their fries are…. THE BEST I’ve ever tasted!

Why the name In-N-Out? It was said that all their ingredients are not frozen and all freshly prepared in the restaurant. We saw them skinned and cut the potatoes at the kitchen behind the counter. The best part is, they only have menu for 3 types of burgers and yet every outlet we went are always full and with long Qs! Not forgetting to mention on their ‘Secret Menu’ where their burgers are made to order… too bad we did not realised until we were home but saw some diners having them and we were so puzzled as we did not see those on the menu board! We had a total of 5 meals for the entire trip which not counting the other burger joints!

One thing we noted about In & Out is their interior design. When you enter to each restaurant, everything look the same. The counter, the seating, the drinks counter… in fact it was as if we came in before but it was a different outlet! Cool yeah?

Next was Jack in the Box. Actually I thought they were related to BK as they have the same corporate colours but they were not. Their burgers are not too bad. Forgot to take any photos as we were too hungry and gobbled down the burgers quickly with a screaming Darrius at our side. :P

The curious me went to try Burger King too as I wanted to taste if all the Whoppers are the same. Well, almost I guess. The outlet we went was a bit quiet but was near our hotel (we stayed at Radisson LAX) so kind of convenient to walk there…

Then we also tried the McDonalds’s Ribs burger when we were in Las Vegas. Silly me thought that it was the ‘actual’ ribs but I was wrong! It was a piece of meat that shaped like a ribs! :| Taste wise, so-so only. Sorry, no photos taken.

Lastly, we had Carl’s Jr. There used to be a few Carl’s Jr operating in KL but somehow they vanished after a few years. I always like charboiled grilled burgers as they are juicier. Taste wise… boleh tahan lah (passable).

After trying so many, still find that In & Out is better… taste, style and concept.  One that is truly American! According to PiggyBeng, he don’t sees them else where in the other states except California, Nevada and Arizona.

So, if you are visiting any of the 3 western states, don’t forget to drop by In-N-Out for a nice and affordable American burger meal. :)

Wow… it sounds like quite the culinary adventure trying new foods. I would have to agree with you that In-N-Out is the best among the fast food restaurants and you might also notice, the cleaniest.

Those burgers look good. Time for lunch!

Okay. I will have to try N and Out next time I see one. None in my part of Texas.

If you come to Texas you have to try What-A-Burger. I like it the best. Unles I want a gourmet burger. Then I go to Fuddruckers, though it is pricey. But the quality is worth the cost.

Looks good, but taking burgers everyday is very fattening to me. So I’ll definitely gain weight if I go burger hunting!
