Parts of Nuby Teether Can Be Chewed Off!!!
Ok… posting on our vacation and Darrius’s 12-month development will have to wait as I have this very important post.
I bought this teether (picture below) by Nuby for Darrius when he turned 6 month. I bought it from World of Cartoon for RM19.90 … which is slightly more costly than the regular Anakku/Pigeon or Tollyjoy teethers. I like it because the gel can be frozen and it has a colourful exterior though it’s a little heavy for my little Darrius then. Darrius likes it as it’s soft.
However, to my horror, Darrius chewed off some parts of the teether!!! What was worst, he swallowed those pieces of rubber! I do not know how harmful are those rubber as he got the worst case of diarrhea after that… when we were in Las Vegas. His diarrhea lasted almost 2 weeks as we thought he was teething and never thought it could be caused by the teether until our paed dignosed him with intestines infection last week.
Therefore, I quickly send an email to Nuby and asked them for an explaination but after so many days they still have not reply my mail. I checked their website and could not find this particular teether on their site… so could this be a recalled item?? I have not gone shopping since I return from LA so have not managed to find out the Malaysian agent/company that import the Nuby brand of products. I also don’t remember reading on the label that all the parts are safe to be eaten.
I really have to examine all the stuff I buy for Darrius to bite on next time as I am not going to risk him going through such a painful ordeal again… my poor little darling.

Yeah…better check next time or else can be a painful lesson like what we had.
laundryamah,

Rachel has that teether too, a friend of mine bought it for her from Jusco… And she actually loves it very much… I guess I should be more careful with it yeah… Do let us know what nuby say about it…
Hope little darling is getting better…
aiyer, why lidat bahaya wan?
Aiyo..so dangerous! I must be very careful then with the teether that Brae uses.
Are you going to sue them?
This is pretty serious. If you still haven’t heard back from them, I strongly suggest you write to the newspaper about them. Is Darrius getting better?
Aiyo, this is terrible but I’ve found some parts of toys (esp the pictures) for “6 mths+” that Lucas can scrape off with his 4 teeth. Do be careful with Darrius coz the big news on toys now is the Polly Pocket magnets that a few kids swallowed.
[...] Rambling Moo posted the warning on the Nuby teether and blogged about her unpleasant experiences. Parents, if you have similar teether, please take heed of what Rambling Moo said: However, to my horror, Darrius chewed off some parts of the teether!!! OMG, i’m so sorry to hear this. I hope lil Darrius is well now. Yes, we’ve gotta be extra careful when we buy toys for our children. Especially when they’re at the age when they simply put anything into it and chew.
Oh thats horrible. Poor little fellow. They should respond to you. How rude, or cowardly even.
jazzmint,
as you can see on Sat, he’s back to his normal self lioa… a huge relief for us..
shannon,
you better watch Rachel when she’s using the teether… you’ll never know!
nyonya,
yalor… mana tau the most expensive ones gave me the horror!
babykhong,
yeap…have to be real careful especially Brae is almost the same age as Darrius… their teeth super sharp! Not sure if I should sue them or not… will discuss with PiggyBeng when he returns.
Vien,
Thanks for your concern, Darrius is back to his normal self. I’m contemplating about the newspaper thingy… must make some noise or else sure no action by the manufacturer/agent.
Kittycat,
I read about the PollyPocket too… aiyoh… how can such big corporation can be so careless??? All these expensive toys…don’t have safety features one!
Lilian,
Thanks for the pinging back and highlight in Mom’s Daily!
Samm,
