My 1st Blogging Mommies Meet

Published by Angeleyes under Moomies & Boobies Talk

As PiggyBeng has to go on business trips to US and Brazil these 2 weeks, I brought Darrius to KL with me after we celebrated his 1st birthday the previous weekend in Penang as my parents came up for the party.

Ever since I started this blog, I’ve made quite a few blogging mommies friends and so decided to meet up with some of them during my stay in KL. The session took place last Saturday at Burger King, Mid Valley. All of us have a fun as well a havoc time since we brought along our little monsters with us. There were a total of 6 mommies with 7 kids and 1 maid meeting up on that day.

The eldest of the lot is little Oscar followed by Fathye, twins - Fearless & Cruz, Ethan, Darrius and baby Jayden. The little ones were really a handful for their mommies and it was really tough to chat as some of us have to chase the kids around and a screaming Darrius who almost break everyone’s eardrums! :D

From left (standing) : Esther with Ethan, Annie with Fearless and Cruz, Sasha with Jayden, Angeline with Oscar, Jazzmint with Faythe and Me with Darrius.

I do not have a camera with me so no extra photos to show. For more photos, visit here and here for mommy and baby lookalike vote.

Free & Easy Los Angeles - Chapter 2

Published by Angeleyes under Family Vacations

This is an over due post which I have taken so much time editing as I was having some problems with WP new image editing function…

The 15 Hours Flight

We checked in pretty early for our LA flight as PiggyBeng found out during the internet check-in that our seating arrangement were not what we have wanted. For this flight (which we found out when we boarded the plane) has only 2 bassinet points in the entire Executive Economy section. There were another couple with a baby who made their booking 3 days earlier than us so they get to have 2 seats together where else I was separated from PiggyBeng as the seats are arranged in 2-3-2 across the plane.

Therefore, we have to take the seats behind without the bassinet. We were quite lucky as the flight was not full (it’s normally full if it’s not a public holiday) so we can have the whole row of seats to ourselves… YES… the entire roll… 7 seats in total! :P In order to secure Darrius to the seat while he’s sleeping, we came up with the idea of strapping 2 infant seatbelts to the one on the seat so he won’t fall/slide off. The good thing about this executive economy class is that the seat has a leg rest like those on VIP buses. Another plus point is… there is a mini bar at the tail part of the plane where there were lots of snacks and light refreshment served for the entire flight!

Hollywood

We arrived in LA around 6pm so after checking into the hotel we are too tired to go any where… after all it was already so dark outside so we stayed in the hotel and had a light dinner of sandwiches… since we ate a lot in the plane.

The following day off to Hollywood. Bought the day pass ($3 each) and we can board on any Metro (buses or trains). We 1st took a bus to Crenshaw to check out the Wal Mart and have breakfast. Our first meal is Jack In The Box. Burgers in US really taste much better!!! *slurp* Then we board another bus and head to Hollywood. Visited the Walk of Fame, Kodak Theater and etc along Hollywood Boulevard.

                        hollywoodmcd.JPGwalkoffame.JPG

Notice a T-Rex in the photo above left?? It is actually on top of Hollywood McDonalds. This McD outlet damn nice. Too bad I forgot to take any pictures of the restaurant interior. After snapping lots of photos we decided to take a train to the nearby Farmer’s Market but we ended up at 3rd Street’s Grand Central Market (pic on the left below). This place was never in our itinerary. Since we were there so decided to go in for a peep. To our surprise, this place is so bustling with people! There were so many food stalls, fruits & vege stalls and spices stalls in this building. The aroma of the food were so tempting and we ended up having our lunch there. We had a Hawaiian BBQ chicken rice with Salmon with King crab legs soup. The rice was good but the soup was a little salthy. The price… very reasonable too… $5 for both! Too bad no photos taken as we were too excited tucking into the yummy food! :P

          grandcentralmarket.JPG thegrove.JPG

After filling up our tummies, we went about looking for the ‘Farmer’s Market’ but ended up in some notorious looking place… we saw many policemen patroling the streets so after about 20 minutes of walking we decided to turn back as we figured it is not a safe place to walk about. We took a Metro bus and saw the sign ‘Farmer’s Market’ after some 25 minutes so quickly press the bell. We ended up at The Grove (picture on top right) which also located at the 3rd Street. The Grove is actually a very hip market & shopping place. They even have tram going around the centre part of the market place. Besides food, fruits and vege stalls, there are quite a numbers of branded goods boutiques too. Saw this shop called American Girl which is actually every little girls’ dream place… it’s a dolls’ boutique… a very exquisite one too! Next to The Grove is the Wholefood Market where they only sell organic food and products… food here look yummy ah!! :P
After all the walking we are really tired… especially Darrius! He was still suffering from jet-lag and still not able to switch to the new timing.

Look at that cheeky boy in his little cot provided by the hotel…

Universal Studio

On Thursday we woke up early as we are heading to Universal Studio. PiggyBeng thought it opened at 10am but it actually open at 9am! So we were 1 hour late! Luckily we already purchased our tickets online (also can get $10 off) so can skip the Ticket Q. When we are Q-ing up to go in we discovered they do not allow us to bring food and drinks! Aiyah, have to hire a locker to stuff our barang lor! Then PiggyBeng bought the All-You-Can-Eat pass that cost $19.95 each. Unlimited but limited places to use the pass! :|
Personally I like ‘Revenge of The Mummy’ and ‘Jurrasic Park’ rides… extremely ‘chi-kek’ (thrilling). PiggyBeng enjoyed the ‘Studio Tour’ ride but I find it so-so only. Another attraction not to miss out is the ‘Waterworld’ which has lots of special effects. The light hearted one is ‘Shrek 4-D’ but Darrius fell asleep… I missed out the ‘Fear Factor Live’ as it was closed for some upgrading.

spongebob.JPGdora.JPGuniversalstudioentrance.JPG

We finished around 5.30pm and the sun has started to set so we quickly go and pick up our stuff from the locker and head off to the Universal Walk which was just outside. This is where HRC (below centre) is located.

hulk.JPGhrc.JPGuniversalwalk.JPG

Tips for Universal Studio - Start you day from the lower level where all the exciting rides are as the Q will be shorter in the morning. :)

Updates: Darrius @ 12 months

Published by Angeleyes under Milestone

The past 2 weeks has been really chaotic and my time on the PC is so pte ltd and since I am back to my parents’s place in KL earlier this week, I have to use my dad’s virus infected PC that always auto restart…. very stressed and frustrated as everytime I wrote something the PC goes… poof! Wasted all my time typing so many lines… *sigh*

This is a very over due post which I should have posted many days back…

Our little Darrius finally celebrated his 1st birthday and it’s such a joyful time for our little family having come so far… Here are some updates on Darrius’s development:

losangeles-pasadenapark.JPG

Vital Stats

  • Height: Didn’t manged to measure him but not much difference from the last time
  • Weight:9.5kg (poor fellow diarrhea for 2 weeks so lost a lot of weight)

Teeth: 4 upper, 2 lower and 2 lower about to appear

Clothing size: Can still wear most of his old clothing but noticed some long pants are getting shorter

Diet: Still like to have his regular pumpkin, spinach, potato and scallops porridge but I have started to let him try a vast of other food such as cheese, yogurt, noodles, pasta, chicken meat, tofu and a bits and pieces of some unhealthy food here and there when we are eating out… :P He hated jars food!

Speech: Ok… not that I mind but he can call PiggyBeng “dadd” since 2 weeks back! Whenever he sees PiggyBeng’s photos he will call out “dadd” even though his daddy tried to tell him it’s ‘daddy’… well… better than donno rite? :| He can mumble “poh-poh” when my mom asked him to and “gong” when he sees my dad. He can also says “maah” referring to my MIL. Though he can say “maa-maa-maa-maah” but I can’t really tell if he calling me as he will only blurt out those when he’s angry or frustrated. When he sees us eating he will call out “mumm-mumm-mummmmm” extremely loud… “tham jiak-gui”… hehehe He will still make a lot of meaningless/gibberish babbles when he’s in the mood. Another thing is… he is a real screamer! His screams are really high pic… my ears will go deaf in no time ah!

Other Development

  • Can crawl very fast and also can slide up and down from the bed using his butt down first
  • Able to cruise when holding on to furnitures or wall
  • Can stand up hands-free once in a while but need to coax him countless times
  • Walk a few steps uncounciously
  • Allowed me to clean his teeth during bathing time
  • Clapping his hands when we said ‘pai-pai shou’
  • Wave bye-bye
  • Give a flying kiss (but will put his fingers in his mouth instead of pulling it away)
  • Slap his laps when asked him to ‘pak-pak-pak’
  • Put two of his index fingers together when asked him to ‘dim-chung-chung’
  • Clapsed his hands together when told him to ‘kongsi-kongsi’

Bad Habits

  • Throwing his toys out of the playpen
  • Bite my nipples when I nursed him especially at night
  • Stay on the breast for a long time and refused to let me pull away or else will scream his lungs out
  • Chewing/biting on anything he gets his hands on
  • Always pull his socks or shoes and will chew on them
  • Shows his anger when I tell him ‘NO’ and will sort of like talking back
  • Shows his jealousy… won’t allow me to carry other babies or kids and not wanting to share his toys with others

Intelligence

  • Knows the car seat is ‘his’ seat so he will quickly want to get in there
  • Know how to tease… if he’s sitting at the rear front seat with my mom and I am at the back seat, he will look over and tried teasing me… like ‘neh-neh-neh’ or peek-a-boo kinda thing or when I asked him to give his cookies to me and he will only let the cookies touch my palm and quickly retreat it into his mouth
  • Knows a lot of things eg: his toys, things around the house and other stuff we taught him
  • Only allowed those he recognised and ’smartly’ dressed to carry him and will scream whenever someone unfamiliar wanted to carry him

Parts of Nuby Teether Can Be Chewed Off!!!

Published by Angeleyes under Rants

Ok… posting on our vacation and Darrius’s 12-month development will have to wait as I have this very important post.

I bought this teether (picture below) by Nuby for Darrius when he turned 6 month. I bought it from World of Cartoon for RM19.90 … which is slightly more costly than the regular Anakku/Pigeon or Tollyjoy teethers. I like it because the gel can be frozen and it has a colourful exterior though it’s a little heavy for my little Darrius then. Darrius likes it as it’s soft.

nuby-teether.JPG

However, to my horror, Darrius chewed off some parts of the teether!!! What was worst, he swallowed those pieces of rubber! I do not know how harmful are those rubber as he got the worst case of diarrhea after that… when we were in Las Vegas. His diarrhea lasted almost 2 weeks as we thought he was teething and never thought it could be caused by the teether until our paed dignosed him with intestines infection last week.

Therefore, I quickly send an email to Nuby and asked them for an explaination but after so many days they still have not reply my mail. I checked their website and could not find this particular teether on their site… so could this be a recalled item?? I have not gone shopping since I return from LA so have not managed to find out the Malaysian agent/company that import the Nuby brand of products. I also don’t remember reading on the label that all the parts are safe to be eaten.

I really have to examine all the stuff I buy for Darrius to bite on next time as I am not going to risk him going through such a painful ordeal again… my poor little darling. :(

Darrius’s 1st Birthday Party

Published by Angeleyes under Milestone

We did not have much time to plan for the party since it was so close to our vacation. It was a rush one done within the week we returned from LA. Initially, I have wanted to bake Darrius’s birthday cake myself but there really wasn’t much time so have to make do with a Chocolate Banana cake ordered from Secret Recipe. However, I managed to make some bumble bees to decorate the plain looking cake. And the goo-goo fellow who took my order don’t even know know how to write 1st as he wrote ‘1 first’ on the cake! I have to take away the ‘1′ and put a bee to cover up the mess! :| Luckily I bought a ‘1′ candle in LA so at very least the No. 1 is still there…. ‘phewwww’! :P

The party was at 3pm and it started to rain heavily around 2.30pm. Most of the guests has not arrived and our fridge was so packed with stuff, I can’t put the cake in so it started to melt together with those bees! PiggyBeng picked up the cake around 1pm and the poor cake was sitting on the table till almost 5pm before we finally lit the candle!

darrius1stbirthday-food.JPG

We ordered fried spring rolls and yam cake from one of the stall near our market. My MIL prepared ‘acar’ or spicy vegetable salad, ‘lobak’ meat wrapped in bean skin and curry chicken. I fried some noodles (beehoon), fried rice, fishball with sausage sticks and tuna pasta salad. Darrius’s 2nd yeepoh made ‘kuih talam’, jelly and ‘kuih kosui’. There were about 40+ people (all relatives) turned up for the occassion and the food was more than enough so we asked some of our guests to pack back at the end of the party… :)

Finally we sang the Birthday Song and blow the candle at 5pm…

Darrius fell asleep while waiting for the candle blowing ceremony so he was really blur when we woke him up. The whole house was so chaotic that everyone forgotten to put on their party gears which I have bought and placed in the party packs…. *sigh*

Anyway, everyone have fun that day and Darrius was a happy boy…….

Has the Price of Chicken Gone Up???

Published by Angeleyes under Alamak!

Went out to dinner at a local hawker centre for dinner tonight. It has been a while since I have curry chicken so went to order the hot plate curry chicken noodles.

When my plate of noodles came, I was a little surprised as there is only one miserable drumlet on my pile of noodles together with some fish balls, prawns and an egg. So, I asked the guy that sent me the noodles, why it’s not all chicken meat since the picture at the stall showed all chicken meat and not with fish balls and prawns? He said if I wanted the all chicken ones will cost me more!?? :|

Then I remembered my MIL was complaining to me a few days back when she bought some farm run chicken to cook saying the price has increased so much.

Since I was away for 3 weeks, I have not really read the news so was quite unaware if there’s an increased of price for chicken or poultry products. Thought that the price for fresh chicken is under the controlled item…

Why everything are getting expensive??? I only heard of prices going up but not down… *sigh*

Free & Easy Los Angeles - Chapter 1

Published by Angeleyes under Family Vacations

A Stop-Over in Singapore

We arrived in Singapore on Friday evening (20 Oct) and was supposed to spend the night at my friend, Moolet’s place but since Darrius was still having fever on and off, we decided to spend the night at my uncle’s place instead. Moolet has a son who is just one month younger than Darrius so we do not want him to get the sick bugs from Darrius as he had just recovered from some bacterial infection a few weeks back.

On the next day, we only went to Bedok Interchange (neighbourhood central area at the eastern side of the island) for lunch and short walk as the weather was not very good… very hazy. Since Darrius was not feeling very well, we stayed home after lunch. Later in the afternoon, we went to pick my parents up at the railway station at Tanjong Pagar (they came to join us for the DeepaRaya holiday as dad’s company was shut down for a week). That evening we went up to my Ah Pak’s (dad’s elder cousin) place for dinner. The food was yummy and the price was reasonable too and just too bad we forgot to snap any photos as all of us were too busy digging in! :P

sporehaze.JPG

On the following day, we went to visit PiggyBeng’s friend who will be celebrating Hari Raya at Woodlands. They cooked lunch for us and we chit-chated for a while before we make our way back to the city. Singapore was seriously hit by the haze… the photo above was taken outside Raffles Hotel and we can hardly see those high rise buildings which were just metres away at Raffles Place!

Then we went to my friend, Arlene’s house near Kallang as she has just given birth to a baby girl. She was having some problems breastfeeding her baby so I went over to give her some guidance and pass her my breasfeeding guide book. Hope she is doing fine now.

That night we went to East Coast Park for seafood dinner with my parents, Aunt Susan and Max, my cousin (was his birthday that day, so as a birthday treat). It was Darrius’s 11th month birthday the day before too… so another reason to feast… hehehe. As usual, we went to our favourite pepper and chili crabs restaurant by the seaside.

spore-crab.JPG

spore-cilicrabs.JPGspore-peppercrab.JPG

These were the 2 unlucky crabs which were chosen by us..hehe. Both weight more than a kilo each. The current pricing was like $30/kg, so these 2 fellows cost us more than $60 (RM130). We decided to have the crabs cooked into 2 different style, one with black pepper and one with chili.

spore-buns.JPG

We also ordered the fried man-toa (plain steamed buns) to go with the chili crab beside the other dishes.

On Monday we stayed at home as the air PSI was quite high so it’s unhealthy to go outside. In the evening, we finally meet up with moolet and her hubby for dinner at one of her favourite chili crab haunt. The place was located along Jalan Besar (facing the Jalan Besar stadium) so it was off the main road.

spore-cilicrabs2.JPG
The carbs here are much smaller as they are not Sri Lankan crabs. They charged $30 for 2 mid size crabs. The place is also famous for its sambal fish. It’s quite spicy for me but Moolet loves it… she even ordered an extra plate of the sambal to go with other dishes.

spore-sambalfish.JPG

The other dishes we ordered were the crispy ‘Ko-lou-yuk’ or sweet and sour pork, fried vege and the Singapore styled Mee Goreng (fried yellow noodles).

sporemeegoreng.JPG

Overall, the food were all very tasty and the 4 piggies can’t even finish all the dishes as the serving was really huge. Price tag: $70+… which is really reasonable. The restauarnt name is Lai Huat if I’m not forgotten. So, if you happen to be in Singapore, this place is worth a try.

After dinner, we went to Moolet’s place to meet her son, Matthew. This is the first time they met up. Matthew was a little shy but my Darrius was like his usual kaypo self and not a wee bit shy at all. Moolet let Darrius sat in Matthew’s walker and he was a bit blur initially as he did not know the walker can actually move! He was so busy banging on all the fixtures on the walker and also the steering wheel which is one of his favourite.

We Made it Home at Last!

Published by Angeleyes under Family Vacations

Finally… after 3 weeks of waking up early and endless walking and on the road… we are home at last…

We arrived on Friday morning after more than 16 hours of flight (transit in Singapore). Did not get much sleep throughout the flight from LA to S’pore as PiggyBeng was suddenly down with food poisoning during our flight. He had it so badly that he threw up more than 4 times! :( Poor Darrius was also down with loose bowel and I have to keep changing his diapers every few hours! He hated it as the changing station at the plane’s toilet was so cramp and he will screamed his lungs out each time I lay him there. Have to pacify his with whatever items I can find there… cups, comb, shavers and toothbrush!

We still could not determine when PiggyBeng ate the wrong food. We ate a few cups of cup noodles at the LA airport lounge and drank some juices. PiggyBeng started to feel nuasea after he finishes his first flight meal (baked hallibut) and after he had his first vomit he just konked out… so I have to care for Darrius alone. Worst part was, the turbulance was on and off and every time I put Darrius in the bassinet I have to remove him! He tends to wake up and will starts to scream. :(

I hardly have chance to sleep as I have to carry Darrius most of the time and also changed his diapers countless time… *sob* The blardy cubicle so small… it’s damn tough to turn around and yet I have to wash his butties as I do not want his little butt-butt to get rashes.

At last we arrived at Penang International Airport and got custom clearance pretty fast. We went out to wait for MIL to pick us up but did not see her so we made numerous calls but her mobile was not connected and no one was at home… so after 15 minutes or so we decided to get a cab instead. After 5 minutes on our journey home, MIL called and said she was actually waiting for us at the departure hall waiting area (this is where she normally picks PiggyBeng up)! PiggyBeng was so sick that he has fogotten the arrangement… *hai….*

After we got home, we ate some porridge and sent both my sick babies to the doctor. After we are back home again, I spent the entire day clearing our luggages where else both my sick babies zzzz….

I’m dead beat tired for the last 2 days and was so lazy to make any postings. Just went around reading some of the regular blogs and before I could even comment, the little sick baby will scream and scream for my attention….

Hope I have more time to up load some pictures we took during our vacation… Till then… thanks for dropping by even there are not much news… :)
