How secure is our home?
Over the weekend, PiggyBeng’s collegue’s house in Bayan Baru was burglared. They came in through the roof during the day… yeah… broad day light! It is a single storey house surrounded by some semi-Ds… According to PiggyBeng, these burglars are really ‘gang-ho’ as they came in 2 days for the job! On day-1, they came and knocked the roof and day-2, they scooped the loot!
Just over two months ago, our house was almost broken-in by a not so smart small time burglar. The fella tried to burn some holes on our air-well roof (made of thick plastic so sunlight can penetrate through)! PiggyBeng actually heard some sounds at about 1+ in the morning so he did went down to check but he did not check the dining area where the air-well roof is located. We continued sleeping after that and did not open our room’s window to take a look outside (our room’s windows is directly above the air-well area) which is a huge mistake.
At about 5.50am we heard a very loud “bonnnggg” thudding sound which woke us up. The sound came about because that fella tried to pull open the roof (it can slide down so air can come in). PiggyBeng jumpped up immediately and opened the windows and screamed at that fella… He did not run as the roof was quite slippery and what really amazed us was, he actually yelled back at us!!! He yelled “mau angkat besi saja lah” at PiggyBeng and walked off. We can’t really see his face but he’s small built.
We quickly went down to check the damages and guess what he’s using to burn the roof??? 2 lighters!!! Amazing! For more than 5 hours he only managed to burn 2 small and 1 big holes altogether and escape with nothing! Silly isn’t it??
After all the hoo-haa we decided to make a police report. We tried calling 999 but no one seemed to answer so PiggyBeng thought we should go straight to the station. When we were recording down our statement the officer kept asking PiggyBeng if he ‘reaaaallly’ want to make the report??? Weird right? We were being enouraged by our government to help clamp down all crimes by getting the police force to assists us but the force tried to discourage us instead?? Anyway, PiggyBeng spare no nonsense…. very persistant to catch that fella… after all that idiot has damaged our roof… that needs $$$ to repair mah!
After this incident, we are so sensitive to sounds around the house when we are sleeping now… just a little noise tends to wake us up….
And almost every weekends PiggyBeng will think of ways to secure the house…until I felt like living in a prison….
