Going for guitar?

After finding out that Darrius is not too keen with his keyboard lessons after having difficulties playing with both hands, I contemplated of sending him to guitar lessons instead. However, I still have to see how he is doing before making the final decision. Will have to check with his trainer end of the term to see how is his performance.

For now I don’t have to start shopping for any keyboard as yet. If I have to change him to the guitar lessons then I might have to start looking for a guitar instead. Luckily I don’t have to look for those heavy stuff yet else I will go bonkers even I can find affordable digitech from guitar center. Phew~

My Birthday cake

Celebrated my birthday end of last month at home. Did not do any special celebration as PiggyBeng has to be away for on site testing in Geelong which is almost 2 hours drive from our place and he can’t promise what time he can be home. By the time he was home it was almost 7.30pm.

Cooked a simple meal and baked a simple cake for the sake of the kids…

It was a simple chocolate cake with fresh cream and loads of strawberries which the kids love. Glennedine asked me why there were no fondant… coz I don’t want her to ingest so much sugar!

Anyway, it was a good day and everyone enjoyed the home cooked meal and the cake. That was what mattered :)

The accessories

Since Darrius is not learning the violin or the guitar, I can save some money from buying a classic wooden music stand for him. For keyboard, it has its own stand.

However, we might need to look for a compatible stool for him to sit on. I am contemplating of getting him a office chair but after a second thought, it is still better to get him a stool that do not have any wheels as I know this chap will starts swinging the chair around instead of practising!

Later we might have to consider getting him a speaker too to be connected to his keyboard. Looks like another big chunk of $$$ will be gone soon…

A letter to Tooth Fairy

About two weeks ago, Darrius’s tooth fell off while he was in school. This is the first time his tooth has fallen off while he was in school. As such, he was given a letter addressed to The Tooth Fairy…

It was indeed a nice gesture by the school to provide the kids with a pre-printed letter addressed to Tooth Fairy. I guessed this will lessen the kids’ fear that Tooth Fairy will not come if they loses their tooth out of their home.

Keyboard shopping

Darrius has just started his keyboard lessons 2 weeks ago. He told me that he is learning to play with both hands now. However, he has been having difficulties as he can’t seems to coordinate both hands. I told him it is about time we get him a keyboard so he can practice at home.

I have been checking some of them online but not much luck as I am working with a tight budget. There is not much sale recently for keyboards but there are concertina for sale at guitar center. Probably I will try searching and see if I can get a good bargain this weekend.

Dentist came for a visit

Yesterday the dentist came to Glennedine’s kinder for a visit. Initially it was scheduled on Tuesday but they postponed it to yesterday.

Glennedine was pretty excited when I went to pick her up and told me all about the dentist’s visit. She told me that the dentist told her not to eat lollies and chocolates but must drink a lot of water. So great when things like that is said to her cause she will never listen to me when I told her no lollies or chocolates!

Now it is easier to tell her to not eat so much of those junk food that she loves! Can’t thank the dentist enough!

Book Review – Teddy Bear Princess, A Story About Sharing and Caring

Recently as Erinne started to play more with her two older siblings, fights for toys or just about anything is unavoidable! Darrius will usually gives in after getting stares from me but not Glennedine. She is one hot headed mule when it comes to sharing! Erinne is not too far off as she is determine to have everything she touches!

When I was offered to review The Teddy Bear Princess – A Story About Sharing & Caring by Jewel Kats I was delighted! The timing was so apt! The book was written to suit toddlers so it is extremely easy to understand. Though I know Erinne might not have much idea but Glennedine got the understood immediately. Coincidentally being a four years old, she is so into princesses and unicorns now which was featured in the book hit it off with her.

Teddy Bear Princess is a girl living in a castle who lived in a castle in a deep forest. She has a gorgeous bedroom, loads of fluffy dresses and a collection of sparkling crowns. However, she has sweet tooth so she will always go looking for lip smacking berries and yummy berries. Glennedine can related so much at this point since she has sweet tooth and loves her berries!

When Teddy Bear Princess found treats she will always share it with her best friend Zumba, the magical unicorn. They will then travel around the planet and share their goodies with everyone. I told Glennedine to treat Erinne as her best friend. And being best friends they should share and care for each other.

Author Jewel Kats has skilfully illustrate the simple idea of sharing and caring between two person. This book with beautiful and colourful illustrations by Richa Kinra Arts is suitable for any beginner readers as it is not too wordy. The simple meaning of caring and sharing with someone who are dear and close is woven smoothly in the story. It is definitely a good bed time story for all young readers.

You can get this book from here.

Meeting some new parents

This week is the 3rd week the kids attending Mandarin class. Ms Diva still needed us to keep her company in the class so PiggyBeng stayed with her while I brought baby around the school waiting for them. It is so boring to wait 3 hours with a cranky baby!

Luckily there were other parents around so we started chatting. Even this is my 3rd year in the school, I hardly chat with any parents before this! lol Normally we just drop Darrius off and pick him when class ends but with little missy… we have to stay by her side coz she is too young to be left on her own especially during break time.

Chatted with a few moms and a dad. Most of the moms are home makers so we just chatted about cooking and stuff. With the dad, he is into gardening so I managed to get some tips from him on hoe to grow our garden. He happened to be a guitarist for his church and told me that he just purchased this 16×4 snake audio at guitar center a couple of days ago.

It was fun to finally get to know some parents in the Chinese school so at least I can chat with them when waiting for the kids.

Glennedine starts Mandarin class!

It was such a momentous week for Ms Diva… first she started kinder and now she joined Darrius in Chinese school on weekends. She is officially in the prep (preparatory) class and will be learning the very basic of Chinese characters.

Her first lesson was the simple 1,2,3 which is yi, er, san. However, she is not keen after a few minutes as she found it very boring. The teacher actually used Mandarin throughout the lesson so I guessed she can’t understand a thing thus find it extremely boring! lol She told me half way that she ‘don’t belong to this school but only to her kinder!’ She also grumbled that there is no playground in the school! *faint*

Anyway, we paid for the entire year and just hope she will pick up something along the way!

Company dinner

Now that we are in Melbourne, Chinese New Year celebration is almost zilth unless it is among family and friends or in places like Chinatown. Since PiggyBeng is not working for a typical Chinese company so there is no ‘loh sang’ or the like at all. Chinese New Year is like any other day.

The company did not even hold any dinner and dance like those in Asia. Not too sure if they don’t practice it or maybe only in certain companies but likely around Christmas time. However, there was none for his company last year. I am wondering if there would be one this year as I heard the company do hold special functions once every few years.

It would be interesting if there is a black tie event. So looking forward to get a a chance to put on a nice glittering gown! For PiggyBeng, if he needed a tuxedo he can get a tuxedo shirt at this site and we can save a lot from buying from the mall here. Hopefully there will be such an event this year!
